Motor Guys--I Scratched a Flathead 4 for an Armored Car, take a look please?
Posted by I make stuff on Thursday, August 20, 2009 4:14 PM

I am building a Russian Armored car over in armor, but the only engine "detail" consisted solely of the oil pan.

I found out online it had a flathead 4 banger, so I scratched up something out of styrene and some spare parts from the parts box.  I am not looking for rivet counting photo accuracy, I don't even have a photo.

I'm looking for a "looks like" or "feels like" a 4 cylander flathead.  Could you motorheads take a look and share any suggestions.  I feel like the head is too thick, should I thin it?

Thanks

I still need to add spark plugs, an intake on the side, a starter, etc.  I just wanted to know if it passes the smell test up through this point.

Thanks,

Not knowing precisely what KIND of 4-cyl you are replicating, I can't say much as far as how accurate it is (if that's your thing), but it does look good! Keep us posted!

I'd really like to apologize now for anything I may say or do later that offends you. Thank you.

Thanks, Chuck, that's my problem, I don't have a reference photo, so it's just a generic flathead.

I thinned the block down and finished it up last weekend, here's what it looks like now:

Thanks for the input.

Thanks, Chuck and Brizio!  I appreciate it.  Yes, it's 1/35, I didn't have any references other than that I figured it was a straight 4 banger, late 1930's, I figured it was a flathead.

Other than it turned out a bit large to fit the confined hood, I was pretty happy.  Here's the thread with the rest of the vehicle:

I finished it up about a week or so ago.

Thanks for checking in,
