Les.61,

Search "Resin 1/25 15" Minilite 5-Lug 8-Spoke Mag Wheels" on Ebay. The guy still has about 5 sets left.

Hey guys, I'm pretty enthusiastic about this too. I'm open to starting it a bit early, maybe November 1st, if we have enough starters. What about Nov 1 to May 1 ?

If we get a few, I'll go ahead and pull the trigger on the start.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Tony,

I think we ALL have the bug to get going!!!!

Nov 1 is good with me, but I might not start it right on Nov 1, but shortly after.  I am about 30% into a very complicated build of Dragon's M1A1 AIM.  See the build log if you are interested:

Ken's Dragon M1A1 build log

I might just switch back and forth if it takes me longer to complete than expected.

The other nice part of starting early, is that I might be able to fit another model or 2 in, time permitting.  I don't expect to be nearly as fast/efficient as some of you pros, and I'll have lots of questions.

For instance, explain to the noobie, why do you guys mostly prefer to strip down the chrome and repaint with Alclad II?  What are the benefits?  Is the look that much better?  I've never done anything like that or worked with Alclad.

Also, I'll be studying forums and following any tips that will lead to a good glossy finish.  You guys are pretty inspiring, so I hope to do the group justice.

Here's my kit:

Check out these reference photos I found, as you can tell, this has been on my mind!!!

I found some really nice reference photos in black with white interior, but I think I am going with the black and RED inside and out as depicted above!

Anyway, I'm in no matter what the group decides.

Cheers to you Tony!!!

Tony,

1 Nov is great for me. I was telling my wife today that I don't think I can wait till 1 Jan to do the Funny Car hehehehe.

Ken,

To answer your Alclad question, it allows you to clean up mold lines, it lets you take care of the damage from cutting the parts from the parts tree (always leaves an un-chromed cut mark), and the chrome also looks more like chrome. Kit chrome looks really white when you compare it to a piece that has been redone. Just make sure you have a nice smooth gloss black enamel surface before misting it on. Also looking forward to your Cobra build.

Later,

Eric

@Eric,  Thanks!!!  The cut marks and mold lines did not occur to me.  Makes perfect sense.  Thanks especially for the painting tip!

Ken,

Happy to help. If you check out the current group build, I have a 69 Charger, a 70 Chevelle and a 55 Pickup on the 1st page that had the bumpers re-chromed with Alclad to give you an idea what it looks like. They're not perfect but I think I've finally figured it out hehehehe.

Thanks Ken,

I checked out your M1A1. That looks awesome! I have a Tamiya Walker Bulldog and an Academy Sherman that I need to finish one of these days hehehe.

I have the paint for the Hot Rod Funny car (Gloss White) and the Vette (Star Spangled Blue). Just need to get some Grabber Orange for the Boss hehehe.

Nov. 1st works for me. I really need a break from Trumpies King Tiger. I wanted to start on the vette the day it came in the mail.

I will most likely lag a little behind on the build. I hope to learn some tricks to make a model car look good when its done, something I just can't seem to get the hang of.

Eric: I've got 3 GBs on here and one (Fire/EMS GB) over on ScaleAuto - I'm not that fast of a builder.  I do have 2 Mustang police cars on my "to do" pile.

Can anyone help me with the badges please ? I've got some photos in mind, and I want to do some badges that indicate the number of cmpleted builds, like the Duck Hunters GB at the moment. I'm struggling to put it all together.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Tony,

I can help. I looked at the Duck Hunter badge. How about a shark for a completed Vette, and a mustang for a completed Mustang? send me the photos your interested in and I'll put it together for you.

Tony,

Here's a few I worked up. Let me know what you think.

The Starter Badge,

First Vette completed,

First Mustang completed,

I can change the background if needed. If this works, I can make up enough different combinations like vette mustang, vette vette, or I can add them and send to you as needed.

L8TR,

Eric.

@ewheeler - nice work.

If I think of any suggestions, I'll toss them out, but none come to mind at the moment.

I'm good with whatever is put up, being my first GB and all.

Off topic, I noticed last time I posted to a thread, a little gray star (maybe it's silver) badge now appears under my name.

I've also now noticed some users have none, some many and some have 5 that appear to be bronze or gold.

Can someone tell he what these represent or how I got mine?

Thanks Ktkrow.

Not sure but I think the badges represent how many posts you've made.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the good work, I like your badges far more than my attempts. Let's run with them as is. We can add additional completion badges as we see what entrants are completed. I'll make the main post tomorrow, my time.

Many thanks again.

Regards

Tony

I'm a part of a bunch right now but due to a move into someplace which makes it VERY difficult to use the airbrush compressor during the winter, I've moved back to pretty much just auto subjects.  Since Corvettes are my favorite this sounds like it could be interesting and fun.

Hi fantacmet.

I don't think this thread is being monitored anymore since the group build has started. Here is the link.
