I saw the old "visible V-8" kit last time I was in Hobby Lobby here, or was it at Trumps in Corvallis??

The visible V8 is not really a scale version of a specific engine.  Some of the others like the one shown by the OP are, however.

The old visible V-8 was 1/4 scale, and was a pretty close representation of the Chrysler Wedge engine series that came out at the same time as their first Hemi series.  I think, but am not positive, that old design ended at 318 cubic inches, it ended about the time that the new Wedge and new smallblock started appearing in cars,,,,,look in a 1962 or so edition of Motor's Manual. (yes, there were two different 318 cid engines, a big one and a small one)

My cousin and I each had one back in the sixties, mine worked, but ate batteries, his had something bind up inside and the leverage cracked the crankcase apart at the glue seams.

He went on to be a devoted "Direct Connection" fan with his cars when we grew up, and I went another direction and went "Total Performance".

I mention the Chrysler stuff because I hope that paint color is some artifact of the internet posting process, because that surely is Chrylser Competition Engine Orange and not Chevrolet Engine Red-Orange

I've often thought that a row of those models on a shelf would be cool, I know there is a Ford SOHC, and a Chrysler Hemi,,, and some smallblocks,,,,,if they included a Chevy Rat with the Vette tri-carb, that would make an interesting display. Three? different companies make those, now.

I love doing engines- car, airplane, or whatever.  Not very many kits available, but there are a few.

now if only we could get that level of detail in the 1/25 corvette kits (japanese makers probably could, but not amt/revell)

the only engine model i have is the Hayes Internal Combustion Engine (ice) which is a four cylinder and motorised. unfortunately their manufacturing tolerance is so poor  the engine doesn't run smoothly (binding of moving parts) and the timing belt was too loose (jumps out of timing notches)

Williams Bros made several very nice radial (air cooled) aircraft engines.  They did a Wasp Junior, a Wright Whirlwind, and a couple of WW1 rotaries- a Clagert (sp?) and one other, forget which one,  The later and the Wasp have been re-issued by the new owners, but I have already built both of those.  I sure wish they would do the Whirlwind, and maybe some new kits- aircooled like V-1710 or Merlin.  These are big, 1:8 and quite detailed.

It's a shame a Ford 289 HiPo hasn't been done.

I delayed buying one a few years ago due to lack of cash and the kit was gone next time I visited the hobby shop.

If I remember correctly the Visible V-8 was a Renwall kit put out in the late 1950s or early 1960s. There was series of Ford, Chevy, and MoPar big blocks in a scale 1/8th range but I cannot remember who did it. Monogram did a scale P&W engine (or was it a Wright) and again, if I remember correctly, Renwall also had a scale chassie and trans in the same scale as the Visible V-8.

The Williams Brothers company was a family owned company and the family sold it to other private owners. The details of the sale/purchase are not public so the fate of all the old Williams Brothers molds, other than the ones being produced, is unknown. Does anyone know more details. Has FSM considered doing a story on this event and its current status? I built two of the P&W engines for a 1/8th scale Lockheed Electra Model 10E. As stated earlier these engines are very nicely detailed. The plans for my Electra came from another family model business, The Cleveland Model Company. This company was also sold and it still is producing models and plans.

That model engine display is an outstanding piece of work. Congrats.

........... The Cleveland Model Company. This company was also sold and it still is producing models and plans.

I built one of those Renwall auto chassis kits when I was a child......didn't have the engine. Unfortunately, the chassis model did not survive my first move. Would be nice if the kit was re-issued by Revell , though it will display auto engineering of the last century 1950s rather than this century.

Thanks for reminding me of The Cleveland Model Company. I recall seeing a nicely built up model displayed in Scale Modeler magazine  many years ago.............
