Greg And then there is the Revell visible Mustang that worked, and got me hooked on flying. And led to over 30 years of doing so. And on and on it goes. (that kit is available and one day I'd going to give in and buy one......) Thanks for the opportunity to spout off a little. And for the memories.

I have an old (from 99-2000) Monogram visible Mustang that I started many years ago and never got around to completing. You are welcome to it.
Hi;
I have a thing for some of the vehicles I've owned some long years ago . One Must Have , was a 72 G.M.C.-Stepside , short bed Pickup By AMT/ERTL . This vehicle gave me my First ! win in autos at our local club then a First in class at the 1977 I.P.M.S. show in Little Rock , Ar .
I was so proud of it . Now I built it stock , But with a much polished and clearcoated Ferrari red paint job , and a real Wood bed surface . Wired engine and working steering and suspension .
Well shoot , I had the real thing in the drive-way to work from . Only it was " Poppy Red ". This model truck ,was mounted on a solid walnut - Former 2-1/2 inch Door Insert .
Then a Lexan cover with .007 m.m. holes in each end for venting .
It was lost in a Tornado in 1982 . Could'nt find another complete in box for a price I thought fair . Now I have one .! A friend heard about my Heart Surgery last February . He had a gift . One 1972 G.M.C. Step-Side Short-Bed Pickup .Started but complete .
I didn't question the nature of the condition of the kit . It was definitely the thought behind it . It will be a re - creation of the original as I do have photos . The only thing that will be different will be the base . I priced a cut-out from the same type of door .Would you believe $ 200.00 bucks !
So I will duplicate it with a copy made from Styrene and Weathering paints .

(But this winter just seems to drag on and on - freezing winds, and snow to boot. In March....)(on the other hand, I guess that means more bench time!)
The old Monogram 1932 cadillac v-16. I built that way back as a boy and my mom loved it so much she put it in her china cabinet!
Thanks,
John
This topic hits home with most of us, I'll bet.
So many for me, too. But for some reason it is the Pocher automotive kits that I miss lately. I only started one, had no business with it as it was too expensive and complicated, I was too young and I never finished it. Yet I yearn for so many of their kits.
It's the nostalgia of sitting at my bench and wondering if I'd ever finish those individual spoked wheels. Which I probably never did.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Many kits from my youth like the MPC Pirates of the Caribbean series, Aurora monsters, super heroes and prehistoric scenes. The old Aurora armor kits.
I've gotten into the habit of buying whatever I see if it is on clearance. Some of that stuff has been sold on eBay for some good money.
Oldcarfan27 ... he brought with him a 1/24 scale kit of the chic Renault Floride coupé - roughly a two-door Dauphine. Funny name, I hope it prevented cavities.

HHscale Yeah, isn't this a great hobby?!

I just faced this demise. I started researching resin kits of the Planet of the Apes Icarus ship. I had found a vendor that had them, but, I was not sure if this kit was the best option. These are not cheap, and I'd never just jump into it. Two weeks later I pulled the trigger and I ordered one. The next day, I had received an email saying that the kit was discontinued, and the last one was sold two weeks back. Had I ordered it the night I was looking at it, I would have nabbed it. There is still hope though. There is one more vendor that makes one, and I ordered it. They told me the mold is being reworked. So, there will be a delay. I hope they don't find the mold too old and they discontinue it as well. Fingers are crossed.
More than I can easily count... I’d say probably now it would be the Aurora movie monster kits that I would love to find again. Unfortunately the licensing on those kits has made them so expensive compared to back in the day before the cursed lawyers trademarking everything like a dog on a walk.
And if I can ever find one for a good price, the Revell Apollo-Soyuz kit. I do miss the space race and similar x-plane kits.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

I suspect many of you have some special kits that are engrained in your memories - ones that you built, but did not keep.......!
I live in Scandinavia, and kits other than Airfix and Revell were rarely seen in the shops - this was the early sixties, so before the Japanese "Invasion" - and when my dad returned from a visit to Paris, he brought with him a 1/24 scale kit of the chic Renault Floride coupé - roughly a two-door Dauphine - by the now defunct french kitmaker Record. Quite a detailed kit, actually. Together we built a fairly pretty Floride - I almost wish we hadn't, for it is Now one of the World' rarest kits ! (Hens' teeth territory).
Another one of life's lessons, I suppose..!
(Don't even ask me about the contemporary Record kit of the then new Renault 16..)
