Hey Greg, I too use ImageShack. I think mine is less than $20 a year. No ads, no hassle, good res, well worth the money!

Black exterior, red interior was the hot set up.

That's interesting, Bill. Something inside my brain kept thinking red. I asked my buddy what color his black bug interior was, he didn't remember.

You have me very seriously considering a red interior, and holding off on the brown interior for some other black car model in the future. Thanks!!!!

All this real-world input is priceless.

Sorry about the error with the wash earlier Greg. Should've read better. NO WASH with Alclad. It won't pan out nicely at all.................at least it never did for me in regards to Alclad Chrome. Once it's on there you can buff it a little but that's about it.

Thanks for the update, Joe.

Your input is always appreciated.

Steve, Max, Rob.....thanks for the advice on image hosts. I appreciate it.

In the meantime, I am trying something with Google. I have updated my OP back on page one with the 4 original pics.

I can see them but I wonder if you can. Can you see the pic of my VW motor below? TIA for your help here!!! (if you can see it, can you click on it a couple times and make it bigger?)

You da man, Steve. Thank you. I have read mixed reports of folks being able to see google-hosted pics, reason I'm asking.

Oh, and all of a sudden my old postimage posts seem to be back? (edit: oops, spoke too soon)   Their homepage seems to be live again.

Great pic of the engine!

Wow! were they that color---new??? My whole engine compartment was a dusty dirty grey tan!! My sister remembers when we got a vapor lock and me opening a can of chicken soup and pouring it all over the engine! It was my little camper in the mountains!

I can see it.

I also have had problems with Postimage..... Still sorting them out......

I did some painting on my friend's 1/1  VW's ( a camper van and a bug .... dont remember the year of the bug, but the camper was a 73. )

The bug was Black ,and the interior was Definetly Red . ( For some reason he wanted the wheel's painted White.... so I did. )

The van was a "Disturbing" Green ....  ( think "pea soup " ) so he had me paint it a "better " color Green ( I think it was a Dodge color )  and White top with White wheel's .

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Thanks, Andy.

The motor is a mix of various pics I found on the internet. I have no idea about accuracy and my goal is to have fun with this little bug model. All the info from real-world bug owners like you are just icing on the cake. Cake

I'll be watching yours go together. I'm sure you will approach totally differently having been an actual owner. Me, I'm just re-living my childhood building a car model. Big Smile And as fun as it is so far, I'm thinking it won't be my last.

Timmy,

I'm with you on Postimage. I spent a couple hrs this afternoon just trying to rebuild this one thread and got frustrated a walked away.

I can't imagine trying to fix more broken links. I have no idea either if the links will eventually work or what is going on.

But I do believe that I am done with free image hosts, with the possible exception of Google and I'm not so sure about that.

I can't find the post where the finished chassis was, so I'm posting the two pics again, calling the thread caught-up after the little Postimage fiasco, I'm gonna try to stop whining about it and move forward and do something with the model before you guys lose interest!! Wilted Flower

Thanks Greg for the moral support! I thought you actually owned one!!

The kit is so faithful in the details! The interior is so much like the real bug.

Reminds me of the time I had a 6 pack of glass coke bottles in the front seat and they exploded when they froze! Left large areas of frozen coke all over the insides and windows--with pieces of glass sticking out of the slurry! What a mess!!

Joe, thanks for hanging in here with me.

Sure, Andy. :) We'll all be rootin' you on too, you can count on that. I'm looking forward to your hippie paint job.

Been there with the exploding beverages, but you had frozen coke in a VW, I had frozen beer in a treehouse. And that's another story.....

So speaking of worrying about correct colors and so forth, I've decided to go with Bill's red interior for this black bug-to-be. I painted the floorboard black, I hope that's ok??

Yes, they are rubber mats. Dash is black. Steering wheel is usually white, as is the shift knob.

Doors are black but the insert vinyl panels are red. Carpet in the hell hole behind the back seat is black.

Radio (?) knobs white.

trim across the dash silver.

Roof liner white.

Grab handles over the doors white.

Fanstastic! You da man, sir. Bow Down (you anticipated questions to come as well)

If I paint on some red carpet floor mats, will I lose you? Big Smile

Thank you, Bill.

Awesome, thanks!

You have me thinking about doing the floor black and painting the mats an aircraft tire rubber color.

And BTW, I was looking at the headliner and wondering about it's color .....couldn't find pics of that online, that was great input!!!

For sure! I lucked out picking a bug as my first car back. I'm getting all this pricesless info from Bill and other other real bug owners.

So different from sitting alone in the basement guessing at stuff as a kid. Now I have other kids to help me. We're just a little older now is all.

Hey, there are no rules on VW models whether real or models. VWs weren't throw away cars. Parts interchangability kept all years of VWs in the system. They lived on through multiple rebuilds and restorations. Black floormats? Hey, some had blue shag replacements. What an icon for recycling. OK, just a few more VW thoughts and observations. Anything will be legal and proper. "Volks" Der peoples car.  Geeked

Hey, there are no rules on VW models whether real or models.

But it's sure great hearing all the real life stuff. And I painted the geashift knob ivory yesterday. Big Smile So I'm following one rule anyway.

Hey Steve, glad you stopped in.
