he irony is that when I lived in BG in the late '60s, it was mostly just a post office and a few half-completed subdivisions

Wow. It's hard to believe how much things have changed since the 60's. I don't think anything that close to downtown is as you describe anymore.

Excellent. Neat project. Yes

I'm especially impressed with your homemade decals.

Elk Grove produces a conditioned response, driving to O'Hare. Odd thing is, Elk Grove itself is a neat little place once off the highway.

Thanks, Greg!

A lot of those little 'roadsign' burbs are nice places to visit. The irony is that when I lived in BG in the late '60s, it was mostly just a post office and a few half-completed subdivisions. Now it's a thriving and more-populous suburban community. But still nice.

Never much got into diecasts...they're a little 'clunky' for my tastes...but I happened to have an unused 'blank' Welly 2002 Crown Vic that I had acquired for a years-ago project (later completed in 'real' plastic), so I began casting about for markings. I eventually opted for a place I used to live: the village of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, in Chicago's NW suburbs.

I took the diecast apart and did some minor interior painting to break up the monotone grey plastic look of everything, but I added no interior detail. The single-piece engine 'blob' had a few details picked out, and I added some 'data plate' decals for effect. The home-printed decals were made up in MS-Paint, based on internet photos.

It was a quick and not highly-detailed project...the decals are a little rough in spots, and I freely admit that some details may not match the vehicle year...but it made a nice little nostalgic show-piece for my back shelf.

Enjoy!

Greg
