Old K&B Ferrari slot car

Tons of fun!

I believe I had one of those as a kid in the 60s.  I had a 1/32 set that was assembled from several sets found in the trash, but the cars were terrible.  So I received a new Ferrari model for Christmas one year.  Later I switched to HO and got pretty serious aboout it during high school and college.  I have a (slightly) newer HO set now, but I haven't used it in years.  Time to introduce it to the grandkids!

I lucked out and found a couple of Ferrari prancing horse decals in my stash!

Oh Wow!!!!!!!!! Those were the days. We had a store that had a looooooong road track with all kinds of bumps & turns. All the turns were banked so we could use the speed and work to make the corners. 

He had a drag strip on the other side of the shop. The guys ran all classes of cars. Some of the dragsters only got one run in because the motor burned up. Switching the motors out between runs was ALMOST as much fun as watching the real ones. He had a very large cardboard box at the end of the strip full of small cubes of foam to stop (catch) the cars

We started running R/C NASCAR races in the parking lot too. Still have my #43 on the shelf but haven't run it for a while.

He was in business for about 3 or 4 years and then one Saturday we went over to have some races and the store was closed and TOTALLY gutted. Nobody new what happened.

Yes inspired by The Two Lane Black Top Chevy but mine is a hard top that I radiused the rear wheel wells !

Memories, indeed. Long before I was building serious models, we were all racing down at the local hobby shop-slash-slot car track...and working on 'juicing' our cars at every opportunity, switching out magnets and wire wraps. A good time was had by all!

It doesn't need to be fast! That car was the jewel of my slot fleet. Ah! Those were the days!

Who needs fast, what matters is you have it, other cars, and a track setup to boot.

I see your track set up now and then in pics you post, makes we want go go buy a starter set. Saw one at a Hobbytown recently, thought of yours. I was tempted.
