Finished

Not perfect, CA glue flaws, accidentally forgot I didn't need to glue the glass, and so that screwed up the front glass a bit :(

But overall a great learning experience. Definitely want to do this kit again

Some more progress

Had to fix a part by hand, the molded pins broke off, CA glue accident, so I had to drill new holes in the engine block and on the black thingy, then glue in some plastic bits and voila! it fits!

More parts

Thats more than enought time in between coats, but its Acrlic so I dont even think that was the issue. Must have jsut had something on the body. Did you wash the parts before painting? I dont see members mentioning it that much any mroe but first thing I always have and still do is soak all parts in warm soapy water, rinse and let air dry.

In the meantime, some progress shots.

And a few pieces assembled to get a sense of what the colors look like...

Probably 20 minutes? These are acrylics, if it matters. I guess the other thing is that I've never painted this many coats before, first time doing a gloss finish like this, so that might be why I've never run into this before.

Should I let it dry overnight and try one final color coat before clear coating it?

I have had similiar issues before, and it was one of two things. Oil or some other material  on the body when painting, or you didnt let the it flash off between coats. How long did you wait in between your 4 layers?

So I've run into a snag, I'm painting the exterior body parts, and for the most part it's come out pretty well, using Tamiy yellow X-6, with a 1:1 thinner mix. I've applied about 4 layyers, but I'm seeing occaisional "bubbles" for lack of a better term, see the little dark spots...

I'm not sure what's causing it? I've never noticed this before.

Looking sharp so far. I really like the metallic blue against the black. Tight deadline!

PatW

Shame no pictures.

Do you mean of the real life car itself? Or the model box art?
