Thanks to all of you that took the time to give your comments today.

TAG_LK...Good eyes my friend. Yes indeed the steering wheel is on the "wrong" side. I had the option to do it either way, so I decided to go with something different.

re9za...I'm working on Tamiya's Enzo Ferrari right now, but I'm thinking of doing the R34 Xanavi next. How's the kit? and do you have the special edition with Pe parts?

That thing is a beaut. The green almost has a gold shine underneath. That green blows me away!

By the way, am I mistaken or is that steering wheel on the European side?

Lizardqing & Dave Toews... thanks so much for the support.

There are a couple of small flaws in the paint, but overall I'm very pleased. It won't win any contests, but I did the absolute best I could. Most importantly I had fun and it looks good in my display case. Hopefully the next one will be a little better.

A super paint job, mine always comes out with a flaw or 6 which is why I tent to shy away from autos.

Second car that looks liek that and you were nervous about posting it. You should be proud of that thing, it looks great. The paint lookslike like it is a mile deep.

Joel...Thanks for the kind words.

The Micro-Mesh kit that I use is kit KR-70. It contains 7 grades of abrasives, 2400,3200,3600,4000,6000,8000 and 12000 grit. It also contains the best sanding block I've ever used, lint free polishing cloths, anti-static cream and comprehensive instructions. Depending on what you are polishing will determine what grade you start with. Heavy orange peel will require you to start at 2400. If you have Moderate orange peel you can start higher up around 3600. You can see where I'm going with this.

I don't know where to purchase these kits off the top of my head. I got mine through work a while back. I'm sure others out there can answer that question. I can post the phone number on the package if a web search comes up empty.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement.

I get very nervous about posting my work. Theres something about putting your best efforts out for the whoe world too see that leaves you a little vulnerable feeling. This is only my second completed car so I've still got lots to learn.

I'm not completely satisfied with the photos though. They came out much better than the uploaded versions that you see. I think it has to do with the fotopic site. Pictures that I've uploaded to Rons site have come out perfect. I can't post the photos directly with fotopics version either, I have to link them....oh well.

Randy...As far as the paint job goes, it wasn't all that hard. After prepping the body with 600 grit paper, I shot six coats of the metallic green. Then I let it dry for a couple of weeks and polished it with Micro-Mesh. Finally I used Novus #2 and #1 for a final polish. No clear coat was used on this model. BTW...I also did not use any primer. The paint was sprayed directly on to the bare silver plastic.

Thanks all

What an unbelievable finish! I'm so stunned.
Can you tell me more about the micro mesh kit? I only know of the polishing stix so I would be glad to be enlightened.
Once again, terrific finish

My Nissan 350Z complete with photos...updated with better quality pics
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 8:22 AM
From the very first time I saw this car I've wanted to build it. Earlier this spring at a model show I picked up Tamiya's excellent kit of this sexy car.

It's built oob with the paint scheme being my only deviation from the instructions. I did not want to paint it silver because I have a few other projects in the works that will be silver, so I chose something different. I first tried several attempts to replicate the color Le mans Sunset, after 4-5 tries I gave up. The final color is Testors British Green Metallic with a two tone gray interior. I polished it with my Micro mesh kit and that's it. I'm color blind so I have to take my wife's word for it that it looks green.

Thanks for taking the time to view the pics. Feel free to make any comments or suggestions.
