always save your sprues.... I use old sprue for roll bars all the time, bumpers, radius arms, tube chassis on race cars/trucks, trailer chassis. All kinds of stuff. Not to mention using heated sprue pressed onto a part to hold it for air brushing. I save every clean length of sprue more than a couple inches long. Sure I have a 1/24 car box of sprue now, but you never know when you'll need it.

I used sprue for an external rollbar, nerf bars, and tube bumper on a 4x4 once and it looked great.

Ron,
The sprue might be a little thick, I've used it on a 1/24 Ferrari Daytona - it looks ok, but not as realistic as it could.
Having said that, some models have thicker sprues than others - if you have a collection of unbuilt kits, have a look through them for a model with sprues that seem about the right size.

I used solder to make a cage for a car once. It bends well but is not very sturdy, I am like DEANO and think the sprue would work fine.....wish I had thought of it!

ACTUALLY USING PIECES FROM YOUR PARTS TREE IS A GREAT IDEA IVE DONE IT BEFORE YOU CAN BEND THE PLASTIC IF YOU HEAT IT UP A LITTLE OR USE PUTTY AS AN ADDITION. OR CHECK IN TO ONE OF THE ONLINE SITES AND LOCATE A ROLL CAGE BUT HONESTLY THE PARTS TREE IS A GREAT IDEA AND CHEAPER
