carbon fiber look

Hey with all the work going in to this project you schould go to the local ferrari dealer, tell him about your project and see if they'll give you the keys to a new enzo for a few hours to take "research" photos. like what does the speedo look like maxed out? how many police actualy do join a hi-speed pursuit?. ok just rambling , but the automotive mags get cars to test all the time, so why not us modelers.

Model Master has decal sheets of carbon fiber patterns
i belive i saw a few differant styles of carbon fiber patterns when i was at the local hobby shop a couple of days ago.
they come in a fullsize sheet and you can cut them out to fit whatever you need to cover. ;)

i've seen decals, which i guess would be decent for most applications, but i see a lot of crazing and cracking near the sharp edges from the fact its a flat decal on a multiangled surface. i would hope this kit takes in to consideration all the angles. im sure if they had the cad drawings of the car they could do some retro measurements and make the decal the right shape... ill check that link out thanks :D

Slixx decals makes a set for carbon fiber material. It is SLIXX 1056/95CF. Slixx decals has a web site so you might want to check it out. I use their decals for NASCAR models but they have other things so check it out. Thanks.

hey, not like im a pro or anything but i made some experiments over the the last few days.

i went to my local electronics shop and bought some mesh cloth that they use to cover speaker with. it has small rectangular holes. i then bought very a stiff brush. Electronic shops call it an acid brush. What I had in mind was similar to a dry brushing technique i learnt years back on ceramic painting. , its a stiff brush normally used to clean debris off of computer components with solvents, so its stiff enough to press thru the mesh. i mixed down some gold metalic paint with some semi black to the color i liked. then got the brush wet with the paint. I then dried the brush down as much as i could so it wouldnt wick any paint in to the mesh cloth. what wound up happening was fairly decent. YOu may want to experiment your self. it has a uniform pattern and because i used so little paint, the holes in the mesh didnt clog up. I grabed several swatches of this mesh cloth. There were many variing levels of pourusness in the mesh. Try to find mesh that is nylon and not cloth. The cloth type tends to wick the paint where the nylon doesnt. Drying the brush is cricital, if you have too much paint, it will wick any way and you wind up with a nasty splotch of paint. It may not be PERFECT, but its to my tastes.

the acid brush was 19 cents, the swatches were given to me as "samples" so it was worth the investment to me.

edit ---- it just occured to me that you could prossibly airbrush thru the mesh as well. i havent done that yet, so i dont know how much better it could get.

SMS won't supply a decal set or templates because they are working on the release of a complete super-detail transkit. It will also be of a super-price - way out of my league. I suppose you can hardly blame them that they will not be selling the bits separately. Looks as if we will have to make our own templates in the usual way (masking tape)

i finally connected to motorsports, they do not have a template for the enzo yet, all they have is sheets of the stuff, you cut the sheets to size.. nor to they have photoetch. i also went to f1specalties.com and they didnt have anything at all.
nor do they even show the enzo as a model they've worked on. it seems the CIA was at both these places. they'd deny the model exists :p

I've had stuff from Japan from HLJ in half the time it would take to get them here in UK even - half the price too!!

Will take you about three weeks to get thru it I'll bet - the archives are huge!

AEROSWAT - Studio 27 PE set is just that - PE! No decals. SAKATSU do another three detail sets with solid coil over shocks and the exhausts in metal.
No CF there either.
I reckon It's got to be between F1specialities and Scale Motorsport - haven't decided yet. Both are on GOOGLE. Sorry for being idle and not giving the link.

i fyour going ot buy CF online one of the better places is scale motorsports. they have a coupla different varieties of CF. Studio 27 makes a potoech set for the enzo, i don't know if it comes with CF though.

I have that kit too - still in the box and at present I'm just collecting the bits and deciding how to do it. Surely you can buy carbon fibre decal thru' the internet??

one of them made professionally I think, both have build reports.
I've heard of spraying thru' mesh and all sorts of ways to get this look but the truth is I've never seen one that looks as good as when the decal is used.
If I were you I would certainly try to get the proper stuff.
The dashboard of the Enzo particularly has two different types of carbon fibre showing. Try and get hold of a copy of CAR mag (current issue) - there is an article on the car in that which has some pretty good detail shots of the interior.
(seats incidently are GREEN leather bolsters on that one).
If you can't get hold of a copy I would be happy to send the pics over the net to you.
