1:20 Scale completely scratch built Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a
Posted by Foz on Saturday, December 2, 2017 9:04 AM

Hi Every one

I have been going through my scratchbuilt model builds recently trying to replace photos on posts here and there because of all the hassle I have had from PhotoBucket (I'm sure most of you have as well!). ....and I thought that I would show you my scratch built SE5a I built a few years back!

So.....I built it in 1:20 scale...and it took me about 9 months to complete and was made from balsa,ex Christmas cards, paper, plastic card, tissue, coca cola cans, wire, food packaging,Bulgarian Yogurt pots and any thing else I found useful in the kitchen waste bin!!!!...................no aftermarket accessories were used...I hate them!!!

I have put the photos into sections......please don't think I am pretentious. ..ok...you can if you want!!

This first photo is of the real thing and this is what I wanted my model to look like..................

.........and here's my SE5a.

Section 1....over all photos taken in my back yard!

In order for me to "Even" approch your level.... I would have to buy one from someone... and lie and say I built it !

Awsome work !

Just how long is the wingspan?

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Beautifully done.  Impressive 16" wingspan build!!Bow DownBow Down

I could spend a lifetime trying to do something like that with the best materials in the world and end up with something that would only be worthy of going where you got your materials.

Well Now !

There is a bit of talent there isn't there ? Now really , how did you do this . One major part at a time i/e top wing , port wing etc.

Also , where or how did you obtain that Hisso engine , is that from a car model ?

Thanks for your input!......I built the fuselage first ,followed by the top and bottom wings...the detail you see...ie the Hispano engine was completly scratch built...the engine block is Balsa wood and all the rest is scraps of plastic and wire......same as the cockpit.

Here is a link to my Facebook page where there are a few photos of the engine build...............

WOW Fozzy are you sure your not trying to promote the new Matt Damon movie "Downsizing"? or reliving the past with " Honey I shrunk the kids!",  that is something else. Very nice indeed.

we're modelers it's what we do
