Half Sphere on ends of Flame Thrower Tanks
Posted by Gus on Friday, June 5, 2009 12:55 PM

I'm trying to make flame thrower tanks using styrene rods.  However, I can't find any "bead" type styrene that I can cut in half to get the half spheres for the end.  I've seen some colorful kids bead art craft types but they are too hard to cut and are more oblong instead of sphere. Does anybody know where I can come up with some half sphere?

Thanks!

see if you can find some sprue of a matching diameter, then sand it to shape and attach. What scale are you working in?

Depends on how small or big you need the sphere to be. If you need a sphere the size of craft beads then look at airsoft pellets. Head to your nearby sporting goods store and head for the BB gun/paintball section. Around that area you'll usually find the airsoft weaponry and supplies. These pellets are quite cheap and come in amounts of 1,000 or so.....but you can buy them in much smaller sizes like 100 or so. Then to get the half spheres, simply slice or cut them in half. Hope this helps.Smile [:)]
