Boeing GB mid 2015?
Posted by modelcrazy on Saturday, August 9, 2014 11:40 PM
Hello all,

I'm seriously considering a Boeing build starting June 15 2015 to commemorate the first flight of Boeings Model 1 B&W Seaplane June 15 1916, 99 years earlier.

It would include all military and civilian Boeing built or partnered (F/A 18, V-22 Osprey, B1, etc.)aircraft. Such aircraft as the 727 (my favorite), 747, 787, B-17, 29, 47, 52, you get the point.

I want to stick my toe in and test the water. What do you think?

Would you include the MDD products, since they are now Boeings?  As an old Mac employee, I have long wanted to do a collection of Douglas and McDD planes.

Yes. Anything that is now, or in the past, associated with Boeing, or built/building under their license. I know that's becoming quite a lot.

All I ask is that when it comes time to start, you explain to community, the connection to the Boeing company on your first post.

I would LOVE to see some McDD builds.

Count me in also, I have a lot to pick from, all the Boeing/Douglas my grandfather flew for Continental Airlines (and as a B-17 Ferry pilot for Boeing after the war) and my dad as a current 747-400 pilot.

How long will you run this GB? My personal opinion is for a whole year to run until the 100 anniversary of the first flight of Boeings Model 1 B&W Seaplane June 15 1916.

In any case, I hope to get in on it. I have a couple of things in my mind for it. I guess I better choose just one. I'll let you know.

Sounds very interesting

Ken,

That's my plan.

It's going to run a year, starting on the 99th anniversary of the model 1 and ending on the 100th.

Glad to have you aboard when it starts.

It's the badges you came up with. They just make you want to build Boeing stuff.

I suppose including McD is OK, but it really gets stuck in my craw about Boeing claiming North American.  Lost of Culture, eh what?

I would really like to join this group build if possible.  Not sure which liner yet, and it will make me  figure out how to post pictures.

Of course it's possible, in fact I would be honored to have you join. It will start next month so you have time to decide. You don't have to do a liner (unless that's what you want). The build will be for ANYTHING Boeing including any company partnered or acquired by Boeing. Waynec plans on building a Patriot missile system for example.

I'm planning on a 727 and B-47 myself. If I have time I may throw in a B-29, B-52, B-17, F-18, PT-17, F4B-4. Just kidding, I will be building the 727 for sure though, and probably something else.

You're right Steve I do think making them got me a bit eager to make some.

I don't remember if I mentioned but my Grandparents both worked at Boeing in Washington during the war.  That's where they met and got married a bit later.  Grandma was a spot welder for B17's (now 94).  Grandpa has knee problems so he wasn't fit for combat.  So he made the ammo boxes for the B17 waist gunners.  He passed away in 2002.  My pops got his original Boeing magazines from that were given to the employees to show what their work was accomplishing. He then Handed them down to me shortly after.  If anyone would like to see I can post some pics.  Lots of B17 and B29 photos.

If I rememeber right I now have these models I can choose from-

1/144 USAF C97

1/144 USAF B29

1/144 Flak Eater B17

1/48 Boeing 247 Airliner

1/200 737-700 (With Southwestern Decals. The Paint Scheme & Model I flew on a few months ago)

1/200 737-500

1/320 B52

Guess I had more than I thought...  Embarrassed

Wow Cody,

You've got some choices to make.

Yes, some pics of the 17 and 29 assembly and post assembly would be cool. Love e'm both.

I'm definitely interested; however, I'll have to see where I am with all the other builds I have committed to.  I do have some that I could do as a crossover.  I'll let you know when it gets closer.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile
