That is a tail skid.  Parts for both the military and civil versions are included in both kits.  The two kits seem to differ only in the instructions and decals.  The military version has a tail wheel, the civil version a skid.

I missed my chance on the outdoor decals.  Snow has been mostly gone for two days, but it was cloudy.  The sun broke out for about an hour but I wasn't ready :-(   The forecast calls for eight inches in the area!  That will take some time to melt.  Oh, well, when spring finally gets here I'll take some outdoor pictures.

Most excellent!  And only 5 inches long!  Question, is that a fairing on the tail wheel, or some kind of skid?  Thanks Don!

Beautifully done JU, especially considering the minimal real estate it occupies.

Yes, it is an alclad finish- maybe not the best idea.  A little too shiny, I think.  Model is about 5 inches long.

Wow Don, stunning finish. How big is that thing? Can you set something next to it for scale appearance? I hear you on the snow, got about 60 some inches to melt up here in the frozen MN north country...Sad

Six inches of snow to _melt_?  Ouch!  Hopefully that happens soon.

Nice work.  Alclad-covered?

Here are a few pics of my Eduard Ju52 airliner (1:144 scale).  These are indoor shots.  In order to take my signature "realistic background" shots I need about six more inches of snow to melt and the temp get into high 40s or 50s. I use mid-day natural sunlight for these pics, which means going into back yard.  Anyway, here is what I took today.
