I had written an email to Williams Bros agitating for a repop of their Wright Whirlwind (I have already built their Wasp jr.). Got a reply to day. The person said they are indeed working on it, but the cylinder mold is pretty bad and needs to be redone. They are considering contracting it out, maybe to a 3-D printing firm. It is nice to hear that they are working the issue.
The Whirlwind (and the WB Wasp Jr.) were primarily aimed at the civil market. These are great kits, large 1/8 scale, and if you haven't built one yet I suggest you look at the kit at your LHS.

Good to hear about Williams Brothers considering re-issuing that engine kit.

Yeah, they build up into very nice models. In years past, there were a couple(?) good articles in FSM featuring detailed builds of those engines.

Bob is still at it. Recently finished a 1:16 Duesenberg kit, scratchbuilt about half of it- beautiful job. He is a member of Twin Cities Aero Historians, and will be giving a talk on the project at an upcoming meeting.
Just a quick update on my project to collect enough Whirlwind cylinders to make a full engine on a scratch crankcase. I now have eight cylinders, but finding that elusive ninth is getting to be a real problem. WB will not re-release the full engine kit, or supply any more of the cylinders, until molds are redone, and that will be awhile.
