Good sources for Resin *garage* kits? Sci-Fi, Steampunk, etc....
Posted by David_K on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 2:22 PM
Hi Guys- I was thinking of trying my hand at a resin figure kit....can anyone help me find some good sources? I'd be interested in larger scale (1/8, 1/10 or so) and my preferred subject matter would be: Sci-Fi Steampunk Horror 80s-90s film There must be some good websites where I could shop around...I looked at Industria Mechanika, and they have some cool stuff, but I'd like to explore more options before I commit to anything. Thanks in advance for your help! Dave

Try Industria Mechanicika  http://industriamechanika.com/shop/

They have an interesting range of SteamPunk offerings.   I picked up Fichenfoos Mechanical Fish at the recent show in SanAntonio.

I went to their website to pick up a couple of accessories to go with.

Good prices and quick delivery by USPS (even with snow in Pittsburgh)

Check Mauser Earth & Smog miniatures from Smart Max: www.smartmaxstore.com/smog-a-victorian-fantasy.htm. Authorsculpt.com has two figures from Lady Mechanika. Search Planetfigure.com steampunk.

Also from Scale75 Miniatures:

Steam Wars: http://www.scale75.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=54

Pick up an issue of Amazing Figure Modeler magazine. It's the only magazine dedicated to garage kit figures. http://www.amazingmodeler.com/

If you are anywhere near Louisville KY I would definitely recommend attending the Wonderfest show the last weekend in May. It's worth just to see the contest. Last year there were over 600 entries. All sci-fi and horror related.  http://www.wonderfest.com/

You might want to have a look in the Clubhouse forum:

theclubhouse1.net/.../index.php

It's a modeler's forum, but heavy on fantasy and sci-fi figure modeling.

An online shop, with an attendant forum, is e2046.com:

www.e2046.com/index.php

They have a huge selection of subjects, from sci-fi and fantasy to anime.  They have a lot of recast items, too, but a lot of their own original products.  Their forum is at

http://forum.e2046.com/index.php

I'd look on eBay, too.  I build Maschinen Krieger kits--you might want to consider a powered combat suit, too--and I have searches for 1/20 figures, and the various makers of figures and accessories.  The figures themselves don't have that much of a sci-fi look to them, though.  The genre is really "military sci-fi", and so, the opponents look like Space *** or British 8th Army, generally speaking.  They're a lot of fun to build, though.  There is also a huge selection of auctions for figure kits at any given time on eBay; my search for "character kits" returns about 7600 individual auctions.

You might also want to take a look at HobbLink Japan (www.hlj.com) to see things that aren't generally available on this side of the Pacific

Hope that all helps!
