1/35 Ukrainian infantry?

 I think modern Russian infantry shouldn't be too hard to convert to modern Ukranian infantry. They both have very similar equipment, weapons and webbing. I do believe the Ukrainians use a US style helmet and the Russians use a helmet with a different shape. I could be wrong. Of course the Ukraians ussually have their Blue and Yellow flag patch on the sleave. Another thing to consider is that the Ukranian forces fighting the "separatists" cough, cough, russians, wear a hodge podge of official Ukranian army gear and stuff from home or bought with their own money so you have a lot of room to work with. I think Zveda and Tak make nice modern Russians. Watch some Youtube videos about that conflict in Eastern Ukraine and you'll get a good idea of the different kits worn by the Ukranians. Good Luck   

Yeah it seems like these units like Azov use more homemade equipment while the official army uses more modern russian. I want to see if I could use the masterbox figures from the 90s as ukrainians.

I checked out those Master Club figures, pretty good. The Zveda figures look really good and I saw some Evolution miniature figures that look good. Both sides are very similar looking. I think the Ukrainian gear is past looking like anything from the 90's. It's pretty much on par with the modern Russian stuff. Just my opinion.

I think youre right. I feel like the chechen figures are more suitable for a cold war build rather than anything more modern. I think the Ukraine was still receiving equipment from russia before the east ukraine fighting started.

 If your ideas come to fruition I think that is a great subject matter. Haven't seen anybody try it and it has a lot of possibilities for a great scene from a poignant conflict of our time. Do it please!

I like how that turned out, now did the ukraine also use some of the new russian uniforms as well or at least there gear, ealrier in the thread I was told that the new russian polite people kit could be used for ukrainians just switch out the helmets? I was thinking of maybe a BTR-80 with troops on it so using the APC riders from mini art and some of the crew from soviet motor rifle troop I could maybe do this.

I don't know when the picture from that other thread was taken, the polite people one, but imo the Ukrainian troops on today's front line in the Donetsk region look more like this. I guess it depends what your going for. I think that photo shows border gaurds not front line infantry like these. 

Thanks for the pic, im not sure yet, I kind of want to do more modern look like the pic you posted but I have to see what I get resource wise. Im looking for helmets that would look more like Ukrainian ones I know that they use american helmets and the french style one but cant find any french ones.

I've never bought anything from the Chinese aliexpress, it's like Amazon I think. They have some modern French helmets. Could take awhile but maybe it's worth it?

Most of the time they are wearing loosely fitted camo helmet covers. If you could replicate that you could use Modern US German Russian helmets and it would look fine. Even without a cover modern US or German helmets would work. The Ukrainians use like 3 or 4 different types of helmets. Use your best judgement. 

Thats what Ive started noticing, they have a little of each, I read that in 2014 the government ordered helmets from the U.S. but it also looks as if they have the Russian helmets from the late 80s and 90s.

What would be the best paint colros to use for ukrainian infantry camo uniforms and regular uniforms?

Like the helmets, they wear all kinds of different uniforms. I see them in modern German camo a lot. In their own camo pattern. Whole bunch of stuff. Google Ukrainian Infantry Uniform. You're going to have to match the pictures the best you can. I doubt any of the paint companies have a color list for Ukrainian uniforms. The Blue and Yellow sleave patch is the real defining item IMO.

The figures I have are the ICM apc riders and the motor rifle troops. They all have heavy fur coat type uniforms I dont think ive seen a coat like that in German colors but one of the uniforms on the APC riders looks like a hoodie

That would pass as a modern Ukrainian soldier, no problem. That looks like a great figure. Where'd you see it?

Also I saw in 2014 Ukraine ordered american style helmets. Another question I have is would the ammunition pouches that they had be like the U.S. army FLC ones or would the russian army ones that they wear in the front work?

I would guess that the style of ammo pouches would depend on the weapon. Any modern Russian webbing or gear could be used. If they have a German HK G3 rifle, which they have a lot of, they would have the G3 ammo pouches with Russian Ukrainian style BDUs. You have a lot of wiggle room. Go on YouTube and search Ukrainian war. There's hours and hours of high quality footage to get reference material. 

I guess youre right. All the figures I have Ive been building with the russian style ammo pouches that go across the front of the torso. All the ICM figures came with those style puches but the motorized infantry kit came with figures that had puched on the belt so I guess I could mix and match.

I was doing some thinking, what if I took the tamiya figures of soviet soldiers in afghanistan and used there torsos on the icm apc riders lower body halves. That way they could have body armor and also not all have the fur coats that arent always camoflauged.

Sounds like a good idea. Some diversity would look good. I you believe in it you should pull the trigger. 

Pulled the trigger on it, itll be four guys riding with the hoodie type uniforms that have body armor and two that have fur coat type camo and no body armor. 

Sounds promising. What kind of vehicle?

I have a BTR-80 that will have the figures on it. I also have a 2s3 that I thought I could incorporate into a diorama as well but not sure yet. Figured the BTR-80 could be on the side of a road while the 2s3 is on the other side with its gun pointing in the air doing a fire mission while the BTR-80 either waits on the side of the road or is going past it.
