Scratchbuilt cord?

I'm working on Dragon's 1/35 Khe Sanh Marines set and was wondering if anyone knew of a material that could be used for the radio cord.

Thin wire from Detail Master  that auto modelers use for spark plug wires; steel or brass wire from Michaels or AC Moore sold on spools for jewelry making: more than you'll ever need. Copper wire from an electric cord or electronics such as a phone cord, speaker wire or headphones, Coil these around a thin brass rod or the bit from a pin vise.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
