Napoleon's Old Guard uniforms
Posted by John Lyle on Monday, January 20, 2014 4:27 PM

I have just bought the 4 Verlinden Figures that make up the "Last Stand of the Old Guard" viginette. I am not very knowledgeable about Napolonic war uniforms and I want to get the colours correct. I am assuming that Verlinden has the colours correct but they only show the front of the figures. How were the back packs painted? Also looking on line all the Old guards uniforms I have seen show them with white trousers but Verlinden shows them with dark blue trousers. Is the inside of the coats red?  Are the Verliden figures infantry or dismounted cavalry?  Does anyone know of a good book I can get that will help me with the correct colours? Even a good website would be great. Most of the websites I have checked out don't have the detail I am looking for..

While Verlinden make good figures it would be nice if they had some instructions in them and maybe pictures from all sides of the figures. There that is my rant for the evening.

Osprey has two reasonably good volumes dealing with The Guard.  The infantry of the Guard were not dismounted cavalry troopers and would probably be offended if you mentioned that in their presence.

Look for Napoleon's Guard Infantry.  Volume One covers the Old Guard.  Volume Two picks up other units of the Guard.  If you have to choose only one, go with Volume One.
