I have a wide range of interests and among those are the urban legends and crypto Critters a my favorite The Mothman, this resin model is available from Alternative Images and is one big kit it stands with base 15-1/2 " high and with a wing span of 10-1/2" wide.
Te base which resembles the Point Pleasant West Virgina Silver Bridge is where the Mothman was seen prior to it's collapse on Dec 15, 1967 killing 46 people as the bridge was in dire need of maintenance my model resembles the rust and silver paint, the base of the model is solid resin an since I wanted the Mothman's eyes lighted as he was reported I needed to hollow out a cavity for the 9 volt battery and a opening for the on / off switch.
Using a Dremel hand tool I routed out the section of the base as well as the hole for the switch along with a trench from the battery box to the top of the base for the wires from the Mothman's LED's, the Mothman is also solid resin so I had to hollow out his head and mouth as the mouth has molded teeth but I wanted his mouth to be opened with teeth showing again I used the mighty Dremel for this and succeed in achieving the desired effect I was looking for as this creature has not attacked anyone or bit anyone no blood is used on my model only what is reported by witnesses is what I want to show and I hope you like what I have created any and all comments are welcomed. Karl
A photo showing the Silver Bridge with a Figure at the top.
Very cool and very scary. If it showed up in my living room I'm afraid I'd have to unload my 12 gauge into it. Ha. Very cool, nice job
Thank you, I wasn't too sure if I could do what I wanted to do as I never worked on a solid resin model before it's a little intimidating but I had to try and it worked LOL, I have more confidence now to tackle a more challenging resin or vinyl model project. Karl
Was the lighting part of the kit or your doing?
No I used a switch and LED's from Radio Shack and a resistor, you just get the figure and the base, even without the extra work it still is a fine model I just wanted to go the extra mile. Karl
Oh wow, that's awesome!!! I went on vacation in WV a couple years ago, visited Point Pleasant, drove over the new Silver Bridge, and visited the Mothman Museum. Pretty crazy stories esp if you toss in the flying saucers and 'men in black' people claim were around the same time as the Mothman.
Very cool looking model, didn't know anyone even made this. Great job on opening the eyes and mouth- I'd swear the figure came this way!

Thank you Gamera, I saw the box art photo and thought it did have lighted eyes and an open mouth and was in mild shock when I opened the box LOL, if you click on any photo it will take you to my Photobucket page I think and you can see some of the WIP shots, it was a daubting job but I had a ton of fun with it. Karl
Very nice! And unload a 12 guage into it? It's a spectre... meaning it can phase through matter!
Hey just for giggles here's a photo of me with the Mothman statue in 'downtown' Point Pleasant. Apparently originally there was a plan to have the 'life-sized' statue's eyes light up but they were afraid it would cause traffic accidents!!!
Hahahaha! This is SO cool! Great job!

LOL, awesome photo, one of these days I've got to Point Pleasant and see this museum, of all these creatures I like the Mothman the best I wish there were more versions of the Mothman and other Crypto Critters to model other than what Alternate Images has to offer which have done a great job to create these creatures.
Wow, that is great!
Thank you. Karl
I really like the finish work on your build.
Especially like the weathering on the girders and subtle shading on the figure.
Thanks Spruce-ce Goose, these crypto critters are fun to investigate from the comfort in my easy chair I just love the various stories that are told about them I'd like to see more models of these critters made available to build. Karl
Thats crazy cool. I saw a program on this as well as other Legends and mysteries. So..... did you see him in point Pleasant? What an ironic town name...
