Just having a little fun here. I wanted to make a 1/35 Egyptian vulture for my Bedouin of the Sinai vignette. I started with a Tamiya goose.
I cut the legs off. Straightened out the neck with some heat. Used some wire for new legs and chicken feet for the talons. Used putty on the back of the neck. It looked rediculous!! At this point I gave up. Then I woke up the other day and told myself "This Goose / Frankenstein Vulture Will Not Beat Me!!" I took some .005 sheet and lengthened the wings. Cut the ends to look like feathers. Removed the BS putty on the neck and replaced it with built up pigment. Removed the feet and modified them. Built up the upper wings with putty. Used squadron and mr dissolved putty to make a hooked beak. Used mr dissolved putty to build up the upper legs. It's starting to look like a vulture!!!! Yaaaa! More to come. Armor is easy. Vultures are challenging!!

Is that a mulcher joke?? Bravo!!
Looks pretty darn good to me Griffin. Once he's painted I doubt anyone will know the difference.
Funny, I tried modding the same goose from that set a few years ago. I was just trying for an angry look with spread wings and open beak. The beak wasn't that hard but getting the spread wings to look right was. I eventually just dropped him from the diorama. He's still in a box somewhere in a half-complete state.

That's awesome Griffin. Can't wait to see the final result.
Hey !
Being Egyptian is that a Mod 26 Mig . ? T.B. - - - - LOL.LOL.LOL.
Well I'm not sure about this vulture. It's not good enough, yet. Maybe it's going in the parts box. I'm going to keep trying. The feet are giving me fits and the paint job is kicking my butt.
Looks good to me. Remember most people will be looking at your diorama from about three feet / one metre away and not seeing the little details. I think the bald head suggests a vulture well enough most people won't notice much beyond that.
Thanks Gamera. I put an hour into it today and I think it's acceptable now. My next problem is what's it doing there? I don't like to put dead bodies in my stuff but the vulture is there for some reason, right? I'm considering a severed hand or arm. Not my style but I have to think of something. I'm going to have a dropped a AK47 with the stock broken and some casings laying around. Maybe a little gear with a bowl or ammo pouches. But the vulture needs a purpose. Perhaps just a blood trail?
Your hard work really paid off---he really looks the part.
As to his 'mission profile,' vultures are well-known scavengers, but will also prey on small critters like rodents, snakes & lizards. A little snake at his feet...or some kind of torn-apart rations package, might do nicely.
A smashed bowl with some food spread about might be appropriate. Not too macabre. Thanks for the idea!
