Lady liberty, what size?
Posted by lolok on Thursday, June 24, 2004 7:37 AM
One for you mathematical guys. What size would the Statue of liberty be in 1/72? Also are reasonable models available of her for the tourist trade presumably? If one of you guys can help I would be very grateful.
A friend who cannot get out much spends a lot of time watching movies and is crazy about Planet of the Apes. I have been knocking around the idea of building him a diorama of the end scene with Charlton Heston.
i was thinking of a statue about 12 inches tall but then in the movie she is half buried as well.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks,
jim...

Jim,

Go to this site and look at the various heights. Select the one you want and use this formula. Multiple the height you want to use by 12 to get the total inches. Then divide that number by 72 to get the height in inches of the statue in 1/72 scale.

good luck,

Big Thanks, That comes out at about 25" for total height from plinth. A bit big I think. maybe smaller model railway figures would suffice with a 12" statue.

Hey, Richard - that's a great site - thanks for the link.
Many years ago I made a paper model of The Lady....it was great. I think it was released the same year she was refurbished.
Thanks again.

Cheers, LeeTree

Great idea, Jim! Your friend will sure be surprised with that. That Statue of LIberty scene has got to be one of the best movie endings ever.
