Figures for an Armor guy
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 10:01 PM
As some of you may know, I am an armor guy. I just got done with some figures to compliment some of my armor kits and would love to hear some input. All three are 1/35 scale. I am pretty happy with them all and I just feel as though I need to perfect the face painting. However, I would love to hear any criticism, or suggestions any of you may have. Thanks in advance!

They look pretty good. You already hit on the only thing I would add. Faces need some eyes. Here is a good article with some tips. http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=234 The method I use for eyes comes from Shep Paine book, I believe. It is a cross method. First paint the whites horizontally across the eyes. Next, paint the iris color vertically onto the eyes. This looks like across at this point. ll that is left is to paint flesh color back around the lids to fill back in and add the shape to the eyes. Hope that helps.

thanks Gino! I will give the technique you described a try. I just get scared to do eyes because I see so many bug-eyed or cross-eyed soldiers. I read the article in the link you posted and even though I am trying to paint with acrylics, I saw a lot of useful info that I can use. I might have to give oils a try in the near future. Thanks again for your comments! Big Smile [:D]

all i can see you need to do is add a wash to the eye sockets. a great peice of advice i was given was when you think you need one more small very minute detail, leave it there or youll end up ruining it and having to start all over again. lol its been proven time and time again too.

They look good edog, be prepared to experiement with the eyes, IMHO the eyes are the most difficult part of face painting. It took me years to reach the stage I am at with them, now I am trying a different method of doing them. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Very nice work on the uniforms. As others have said, the eyes need some work.
