Modern Infantry figures????
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 9:45 PM
First off, I'm brand new the forums...but have been modeling for 3 decades....on and off. I'm just getting back to it and have a few plans. Most of those plans are based on the current conflict in Iraq. I have found only two figures (Verlinden) that are close. But I need several more in different poses to add to dioramas.

Any sources?

Mushos gracias!!

Can I ask what scale? I know Verlinden has a few 120mm OIF American soldiers. If you're looking at 1/35, Dragon has some boxes of modern American Infantry, Marines, and Airborne that can easily be painted up to represent American soldiers in Iraq 2004. I think they might even have some British 8th Army from the same period.

In 1/35, only the DML Modern US Marines is current for ops in OIF. They are the only plastic figures, with the exception of those that come with Tamiya M2A2 ODS, M113A3 OIF (really an A2 with a few extras) and new HMMWV kits, that have the proper torsos with Interceptor Body Armor (IBA). You can mix these torsos with older DML infantry and tanker sets from Operation Desert Storm era figure to get lots of poses. Verlinden also does a modern US Gear and equipment set that includes two torsos with IBA and all the ammo pouches that go on them. There are a few new figures by Blast Models, Verlinden and others that are coming out in resin of modern soldiers in OIF as well.

Sprue brothers had two different two figure sets of 1/35 USMC infantry from OIF advertised a couple of days ago. www.spruebrothers.com is the web address. I din't recognise the brand though.

Michael Roberts Ltd (www.michael-robertsltd.com) have a couple of USMC figures in 1/35 for the current Iraq conflict. I particularly like the figure pointing his M16 downwards - perfect for a 'Capture of Saddam Hussein' vignette or diorama.

By the way, ghamilt1, the British 8th Army was disbanded in 1945. I suspect the phrase you're looking for is 'Desert Rats', though, as far as I'm aware - and I'm British - this sort of terminology is only really used by tabloid newspapers, rather than by the troops.

P.S. I've just had a quick look at the Sprue Brothers site, and saw some figures by Hobby Fan - a couple of sets of Marines with two figures each, both with display bases(items HF556 & HF557) and some vehicle crew figures (HF563 & HF564). There's also a set of Modern US military equipment and weapons (HF048), though this seems a little pricey for what is offered.
