Hi Greg:

I am sorry to report that for the forseeable future the M.V.Mellum is on the " Shelf of Doom"

Seems when I started her I was working in the kitchen .Landlady said it was OKAY ! Cool, took up very little space on my place at the table. When I cleared my bench for a break after all all the other stuff I have started I thought it was time to go back to her,

They had moved my stuff to my bench but weren't to careful. It seems that three major after-deck parts that hadn't been installed( But flawlessly built) Got lost in the shuffle. So No Crane Bridge ,Boom or Base!! I am going to wait,Hope I can fine them somewhere or get another Mellum.

     Hi Again Greg!

After two hours of looking and finding  lots of P.E.1/350 Ladders, Rails and other paper stuff, I found them! Not in the carpet monster! They were in a very nice container in my reference bookshelf. I say Bless You Carol( That's my landlady)

This is where the "Ghosting" is confusing. I know it's done to show a repeat part on the side away from you, but it can be confusing because the pictures are in shades of grey. Sometimes the parts locator arrows get lost in the clutter!

Oh, how that has a familiar ring to it!

When I built HMV's U.S.S. Maine recently, I spent a fair amount of time looking for sheets (or parts thereof) that I'd thought I'd lost because of those verdammt 'ghost' illustrations. [Luckily, I knew enough to scan all my sheets before I started. That way, I could not only reproduce parts if/when necessary...but I had the original groups of parts to refer to, to track down those 'disappearing' part numbers!]

I also came to find myself wishing...instead of drawings showing just a completed assembly...they'd put in a few drawings showing how the parts were supposed to fit together. I puzzled it all out, eventually...but lost a few hairs in the process (and I don't have that many left to lose! Sad).

Anyway, TB...glad to hear you're progressing on the build! I hope (possibly -- no pressure) to see pics at some point. They're really interesting models, and it's fun to see them come together from just bits of paper.

Rock on!! (Although...as the Papermodelers website reminds us..."Paper Beats Rock Everytime.")

Cheers

Greg

Hello;

Hey, I posted about a 1/200 card model of the M.V. Mellum. Well, She's actually 1/250 ! I started her. I am at the point of installing some detail parts. Geez! This thing has more parts than any plastic model, for sure. One thing I noticed was that I had to stiffen the Bow frames and the stern frames because of the glue joints and where they wound up.

I wish I had photos( Maybe some in time) but the building is enough to mess with right now. This thing even has seperate storm shutters for the lower decks Forward Windows! Some parts are unusual in both their complexity and layout. Gotta wonder what was going through the mind of the designer at the time.

Maybe to much Bier ! Anyway she does look good as one progresses. This is not for the impatient! I have been working two hours a day since I first posted about her. I still don't have the third deck installed or details put on. Can you say Teensy parts. Lot's of them that you fold and glue, then come back, cut them out then install them, All Eighty of them. (Hull Bulwark braces) then there are more details just on the outside of the Bulkheads. Yes, there separate w/t doors and benches!

All this has to be found, cut out and installed. The photo Instructions are okay but ghosting is confusing. So, You definitely have to follow the part numbers. To this point this vessel has been a challenge in a good way. BUT, it is easy to get ahead of a step just following the pictures.

This is where the "Ghosting" is confusing. I know it's done to show a repeat part on the side away from you, but it can be confusing because the pictures are in shades of grey. Sometimes the parts locator arrows get lost in the clutter! Now, that I have given you this overview, I am going to try some pictures soon. This is definitely a complicated model. Under the "Schreiber" method( another publisher of these) it would rank as difficulty -Five stars! This is printed and offered by Hamburger ModelBaugen Verlag.- Fentens Productions. So far it is awesome when you get a step finished and look back on your progress the next day!

I will give you another report when I start using the detail kit!
