BSG Raider late model

From the new series I begin the construction of the Raider with some light blocking work.

That's two layers of Krylon gloss black inside and out. Here's a peek at what's going to be inside there.

Now with some Alclad aluminum inside and out

I want to light up the guns which the current lighting package has no allowance for so to begin I recreate the gun in resin around a brass tube. Note the white plastic rod added to each end of the gun, this will act as an alignment for the brass during casting and will be cut off in the end. Fiber optics will slide into the tube and feed from the flickering LED in the engines.

So the first laser cannon comes out of the mold. I chopped off the excess brass in the front, ran my fiber optic cable through the gun and secured with a spot of super glue, The end sticking out will be cut off after painting. The bent brass on the back end is to conform to some internal structure of the model.

Engines are put together and test fired. Thrust is good!

I'm opening up at least one missile bay. I imagine the bay doors sliding back into the body which would leave the outside door partially exposed. It was made from clear stock as that was the thinnest material I had on hand.

Here I have started to detail the bay interior. The forward bulkhead is clear  and will be frosted later and a red LED will be in there to illuminate the bay.

Here we can see both bays

Beautiful work, Swanny. I like the thought you are putting in to this one, especially the details of the missile bay.

Cheers, Aaron

I've been making stead albeit slow progress on this build. A lot of time has been spent filling and sanding the gap formed along the lower wing leading edge where the upper and lower pieces meet. It's pretty nasty and even now I think I'll still need one more coat of liquid putty to finish it off. Stuffing all the wires and fiber optics into the fuselage is the challenge now, I cannot simply run them across the lower surface then cover with the final plate, I have to cut trenches for everything.

Okay, time to stuff all this into the body shell.

Man, that looks great. Need to fab up some slimy Cylon bio-mass and put a little Starbuck figure in the 'pit'.

Thanks guys, I've been a little distracted with a German Destroyer build but that is nearly complete and then I can get back to this.

Well I knocked off my destroyer build last weekend, as promised, and have been able to complete the assembly of this one. Now I have a little masking to do then I can start laying down some gloss black primer. I few of the deeply inset areas have already been primed before assembly but now everything is ready to go.
