Are the D-7s marked as Klingon ships? Since of course in the episode they were in Romulan service.

The decals are for Klingon ships.

It is kind of neat if a little tedious.You tape a grain of wheat bulb to the bottom of the saucer section and drill microholes  all around the saucer section.You then run the fiber optic cables which I am pretty sure are 1 pound test fishing line from the bulb through the holes and leave  1/8 protruding which will be cut flush after painting.

Just a heads up if you build this kit;be sure to test the bulbs before installing them.i was just about ready to close thev saucer halves of the Enterprise when I decided to test the bulb.The bulb was dead so I had to replace it.I would not want to pry apart the saucer section.

When I joined the saucer sections,there was a wicked gap.I rejected the use of putty for fear of damaging/clogging the fiber optics so I cut a thin plastic strip that I clamped around the edge with mini binder clips.The instructions would have you putty over the wires running down the engine supports but I feared that the wires would be damaged so I cut brass u channel and glued them over the wires.The insulation is intact so the engine lights will not short out.The internal wiring of the main hull looks really tricky so extra care/study will be taken there.

I finished soldering the tiny wires inside of the Enterprise and joined the lower hull section together.Wow!that was nerve wracking and I made sure to test to see that the saucer and engine lights worked properly.Not easy to solder and carefully shove the wires inside of the hull and make sure that the leads do not touch each other and short out.I wish the ships were about double their size,would make it a lot easier.

Puttied and sanded the gaps in the Enterprise's hull.Then I primered and painted the hull Tamiya gloss white.Tamiya paint really covers well and since I mounted it on my swivel base mount I could shoot it at all angles for complete coverage.Next after the paint dries I will decal it as well as the two Klingon battle cruisers.

i will post photos when and if my other laptop gets repaired!I put the decals on the Enterprise and Klingon D7s and they look good.i did put some Microsol  on to snuggle them down and will Future all three ships after the decals cure for a few days

I finished painting and decaling the Enterprise and am now starting on the starfield back drop.I drilled the tiny holes and mounted up the bulb and fiber optic bundle.I have to thread the tiny optic cables through the holes and then I have to get ready to mount up the ships.Wiring the ships together may be tricky due to polarity issues.I wish they had included black as well as red wire.Might have made it easier.

The wiring is proving to be challenging.I have decided to run the fiber optics and "planet"light on a separate 9 volt circuit utilizing brighter leds.The Enterprise lights up just fine but the lighting on the Klingon battle cruisers is a bit more subtle.The "planet is a quarter dome of clear plastic.I am not sure how I will paint it .Probably with clear blue yellow and green.

OK!after some difficulty ,I managed to wire it so that all 3 ships light up at the same time!The Enterprise looks really impressive as I painted the warp nacelles clear red.The D-7s look pretty imposing too!The light gauge of the wires made them a bit difficult to work with.Now all I have to do is paint the "planet/ and it will be done.Looks great in a darkened room."

This kit was an interesting challenge.I would rate it a skill level 4 or 5 due to the tiny bulbs and rather complex wiring.The sound unit only has 4 or 5 phrases and sound effects but they are clear and without distortion.I imagine this kit had a rather high return rate due to the skill necessary to make it work but if you persevere it can be a unique addition to your model display and a cool conversation piece.
