O M G !      ..... Really ?????

Ok, you asked.

A few year's ago ( 1981 ) I thought it would be a cool Idea to Widen a Revell "Lil John Buttera 27 T kit.   I widened the body , so the Interior of Monogram's "Lil Coffin" would fit in it. I used Sheet plastic for the extra width, but it was kinda flimsy ( I should have used thicker sheet plastic. )

So there I am .... floppy body T in hand, when I have a brainstorm. Fill the exposed space with Epoxy. My thinking was that just putty wouldnt be strong enough. Sooooo.... out came the Epoxy ! I tried to use a putty knife to smooth it out, but it wasn't going on quite right. That's when I "Wetted" my finger's ..... Thing's got "Spider - webby" real quick !!!

Little line's of Epoxy were EVERYWHERE !    ( I had to soak my hand's in Gas , just to get the stuff off ! ) The model suffered too. It was like a ship rigging nightmare ! solid string's of Epoxy all over it !  Sanding took D A Y ' S !!!!

In the end , ...... I BLEW IT UP !!!!!!!

Gloss black? Isn't black hard to see details?

For me, Gloss Black show's you if the surface is "Mirror smooth" , or , full of pitt's / divit's.

But, yes..... Try not to cover up any detail's by getting the paint on too thick.

( Resist the urge to totally fill in the offending area. )

Ah! I see. Thanks for splaining. Something tells me we are not talking about the same kind of epoxy. I am talking about the putty type that you knead together. No strings with this stuff. In fact, I have tried the wet finger method and it does work. But, the tackiness still fights ya some.

That's a funny story, that isn't, but is, and isn't. You know what I mean.

When I first read this I thought it said my WIFE. I thought.... Whoa!

What was I doing in 1966: models, cap guns, hot wheels, dodging grade school, cartoons, playing.

Oh.. the good old days.

Lol... I was wondering if a reward was coming. You didn't fail me. I love It! Did you make that up?

I should print and frame it!  No joke. I could hang it above my bench as a motivator. It could see me through the build and when I'm done in 2025.

All that I can tell you is if you are in the mood for some chatter... then you came to the right place. If you are in the mood for some actual building... this thread might literally drive you insane.

It's been my habit to do more yacking than building, so I think I'll fit right in.

I am off work today, having a new furnace installed. Of course--the workers are in the dungeon where my work bench is. That leaves me with not much to do. So, I might as well add a new chapter to my crazy story.

A Time for Reflection

I muse at seeing the three of them work. But, as much as I am enjoying their penance... it's time for a walk. We will camp here for the night and I thought we could explore some.

"Come on Nova, let's go for a walk." I help her up, the both of us are still a bit wobbly.

The area is sort of a horseshoe shape. There is the sea, the beach, and then a long and towering range of rock cliffs that hem us in. Access to the cove is open from the direction we came but continuing on is blocked by this same formation that curves into the sea. Cornelius told me that the only way around that is to wait for low tide. If we hug the shore line at low tide, access opens up just beyond. This will occur in the morning.

Not to be too much of a jerk--I help with preparations. Nova and I begin collecting driftwood that we can use for the evening fire. Before we know it, the sun begins to set low, setting off the most awesome red and orange sky I have ever seen. I don't know why, but this gets me to reflect on what we are about to do. I question the wisdom of heading off into the desert and taking another soul with me. Deep concern washes over me.

The night is clear, and the stars are amazing. I can only dream of nights like this back home. The fire is raging, and I look on the faces of those around me. They all have a somber look to them. As if, we all know what the future has in store. I keep gravitating back to Cornelius because he has the look of someone that has something to say.

Bakster: Cornelius? Is something on your mind?

Looking a bit dumbfounded...he replied: "Well... yes. I do. I want to apologize for today. We put you in jeopardy, and I am sorry for that."

All three of them nodded in agreement, all looking remorseful.

Wow! I didn't see that coming. Maybe there is hope for these apes. Yes

Bakster: We survived. I should thank you for what you have done for us. You'll be in trouble for that. So, thank you!

Zira's face lights up: "Bright Eyes, you are welcome."

Cornelius: What about you? Is something on your mind? You look troubled.

Bakster: Cornelius--what do you think about taking Nova with you and back to her tribe?

Cornelius: We can't do that. It would be much too dangerous for her. If the gorillas recapture her, and they will, they will certainly kill her. The gorillas don't take kindly to fugitive humans. I am sorry. The only option for you two is to leave this area.

Bakster: I see.

Not much more is said. The night is getting cold to our backs, even with the blazing fire. Zira brings out some pelts to warm Nova. Soon after we retire for the night.

Furnace guys just left.

I haven't seen Red Dwarf in Forever ! ( I use to love that show !)

But, one thing alway's bothered me about "the cat guy". On the show , it was said that he " Evolved" from the ship's cat, over the course of 10,000 year's ........ HOW ???

Does this mean that he's been alive the whole time ???

Or did the cat breed with " something" , and evolve into something else, and then That "something" breed with something .... ECT...ECT...

( OH NO !!!! Now I went and interrupted the time continueum / Parallelum ...... My head hurt's ... )

I'll have to "pause" between my post's , to give you time to chime in.

( I have pulled this thread so far out of "Orbit", that Baxter will have a hard time getting the kit "Actually built" .....

I Really can't help myself ....... I " NEED" to get a life ....)

Oh lol, I've never even seen 'Red Dwarf'. I really do want to see it sometime though, it sounds pretty funny.

I was joking about the H.P. Lovecraft story 'The Cats of Ulthar'. You have a couple who hated cats and were always mean to them. One night all the cats in the village laid seige to their house and the next morning the couple had vanished and were never seen again. But all the cats in the village looked really fat and happy the next day...

Actually, I think your writing skills are pretty good. Very descriptive.

Being late to this thread, I've not gotten the Time magazine cover figured out yet. Where'd it come from? (Yes, I haven't gotten around to reading this whole thread or even going back a few pages ......yet. Color me lazy)

Thanks, Greg. I thought it might be fun to go on that tangent. And, truthfully-- it WAS. But--it is probably more so the case for me. I tell you this though: I think that it helped me get past the builders block I was struggling with. None the less--I shall try to curtail them. I think that for this thread, it is more lead, than balloon.

My friend--I would not wish that on you. Don't feel obiligated. If you are extremely bored one day--you might check it closer, you might find some enjoyment in it. Clearly--one needs to be in the mood for it.

Greg: The magazine is a mocked-up cover for the astronauts from the first PotA movie as if it were a real space mission.

BTW: I watched the original Halloween last night and had the strangest dream:

Bakster was running though a dark house and Tim wearing an ape mask was chasing him trying to stab him with a razor sharp Icarus model...

And Captain Mac was Doctor Loomis...

Doctor Captain Mac:  'I met LittleTimmy, 15 years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this... six-year-old child with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and... the blackest eyes - the Devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up, because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil.'
