Starship modeler
Posted by danburnsart on Thursday, December 12, 2019 8:21 PM

Hope it's ok to post this here.  I've been trying to join the forum over at Starship Modeler but can't seem get anyone to activate my membership or even respond to my email.  Just thought I'd ask if anyone here knows of problems over there.  Thanks

Apparently you're able to post here.  How about just posting here?

A lot of great resources they let sunset into oblivion....their policy is to purge ‘inactive’ material over time. Just to use the Battlestar Galactica forum there as an example, there was all kinds of discussion and tips and tricks when the Moebius kits came out...which SM has allowed to be deleted and disappear into electrons again, because the discussions were not ‘active’ and ‘current’ enough for them...so looking for some hints and tips and inspiration on building your Moebius Galactica? Forget about looking there for it .

I'm sure that's true, but I'm sure there are still many good brains over there to pick.

It is a good site. They recently have gone through a site update and I don't think everything is up and running like it should yet. Give them some time to sort it out, most of us remember what happened here, what about a year ago.

Remember or if you did not know, this is basically a mom and pop run site. They do not have the funds to store a lot of data, that is why they have to purge inactive threads. Onezero is the site owner/administrator try getting in touch with him via facebook or twitter, he is usually quick to respond.

Thanks Stephen. Yes I know it's a fantastic site. I visit the main site often but am kind of wanting forum access lately. I get it that sites need to purge old info and threads. There is tons of old info on many, many useless threads on every forum. Data storage isn't free. I don't fault a site owner for purging the junk occasionally. SM has sooo much info on it that you need to clear out the attic once in awhile. Thanks again for the info. I'm not on FB or Twitter so I'll keepntryingnto reach them through email.

I hope you get on if you want to, John and Linda are nice folks.

Unfortunatly there are 3 or 4 real arrogant blowhards over there posting.

I left because of them in a long time ago, I went back this year and found nothing has changed.

That's too bad. I know the type and have left many forums myself because of people like that. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll take it under advisement in case I do get on.

Had that happen on a Sleep Apnea forum I joined, at least a half dozen or more huge bullies that would attack you for using certain cleaning equipment and the mods were in on it. Found another one that didnt allow the bs and actually found help.

Ya I've run into that on most forums. I just ignore them if I can.

There are people like that on medical forums like my lung transplant forums, yeah, just ignore.

But sometimes you can’t ignore them because they post so much!

At the risk of sounding ungrateful, it seems they mostly fight and complain about stuff.  Very little modeling going on over there.  But to be fair, there are “good guys” on the forum, and the reference resource is very helpful.

There's a page on FB called Starship Modelers. Dunno if they're related but I haven't seen any drama in the couple weeks I've on there.
