Mark, does that $60k include or require any sort of licensing fees or permissions to make it? It is an awesome model.

I don't know, Rob. I'm not high up enough on the food chain to know. I'm but a lowly builder!

I'm not surprised, considering the design creation time, production equipment, materials, man-hours, shop overhead, and just plain old fashioned skills that it takes to produce something like that.  Thanks for the info, Mark.  Very nice.

A build like the TOS Enterprise typically runs in the $60k range.

Indifferent

Mark, I assume you work for a commercial shop building custom models.  May I ask what you would charge for something like that?  It's great!

Thanks Chuck. Yes, the shop I work for builds high-end re-creations of studio scale Hollywood models. We also design and produce our own multi media model kits, and we also offer resin casting and other production services.

A build like the TOS Enterprise typically runs in the $60k range.

Thanks for the answer. Now do the weapons work (not really fire); do the phaser banks and photo torpedoes have any type of light effect to simulate firing?

No, no "working" weaponry. (I guess one could say it's on a diplomatic mission of peace!)

Amazing work Mark. What scale does a 66" Enterprise work out to be?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments!

Rob, I did a rough calculation, based on the specs of a Constitution class ship (289 meters long), and came up with a scale of approximately 1:172.

Another bit of trivia is that our model is one half size of the original filming miniature.

You did a great job.  The lights are what make it really pop.

Despite really enjoying TNG I just cant bring myself to get a star trek kit for the same reason I passed on the star destroyer, and other similar kits.  the colors are to boring its like... prime, panel line, finished.

Looks even better than the one they used in the filming.  Live long and prosper.

We finally wrapped up this baby at work (www.customreplicas.com) this past week. This is our 66" long T.O.S. (the original series) Enterprise. Now who wouldn't want one of these in their living room?!? Enjoy the pics, sci-fi fans!
