"If anyone has built one of these I'd love to hear any advice, experiences, etc."

Starship Modelers has a build page on this ship, if it helps.

I'm currently watching Space:1999 on YouTube. Really love those ships!

Cheers, that sounds good for the kit shown. I have the warp and the AB 22inch as well, outside of an Eagle the Hawk is one of the best looking Sci-Fi vehicles ever, that's just my humble opinion.

Terry, I paid $45 US for it on Evilbay, Monsters In Motion still has them for sale for $50 US, don't ask me how much I paid for the Warp kit, I got at a killer price so I don't want anyone who paid full price going commiting Seppuku

Hi, i know it as the Airfix kit and this looks cool, partially assembled to cut down on the part count. i have built the Airfix one but to my knowledge it is quite inaccurate but it looks the part, remember the hawk is only in a couple of scenes but outside of the eagle it is super cool looking. i paid £30 sterling for my French Airfix hawk mint in box about 13 years ago, if you don't mind me asking how much did this cost?.

The only alternative one is the kit by WARP and while the most accurate in that scale it is expensive about `£50sterling. the most accurate is the AB models one at 22inches in resin at about £200sterling and like gold dust at the moment.

Try a trip to Eagle Transporter.com its worth it , a great site.

good luck to you on your build and if you would like me to post some pics PM me or mail me  at terry35@gmail.com

Regards,

Terry.

Thanks for the information, this is still on the bench waiting a display spot, I also picked up a Warp Eagle kit to go with this one (talk about opposite extemes!) , I'm hoping to score a Warp launch pad but if I cant I'll scratch something. The long term plan is to have the Warp kit sitting on the pad with the Hawk supported above it. Two kits - one display.

From my initial parts grope, here are my suggestions:

1. compared to the eagle, there is a small tubular structure on the bottom. Don't even bother cleaning the resin parts up. Build one either out of brass rod, evergreen rod, or a suitable wire. If you're really uncertain about your scratchbuilding skills, even sections of brass rod cut to the correct lengths with squared off ends superglued together will look better than trying to clean up the resin parts.

2; The engine bells are direct copies of the plastic model kit. You should thin those out from the inside and plan on either painting them with alclad or applying bare metal foil to them. There are some detail issues with those engine bells, so if you're really ambitious, scratchbuild new engine bells and apply correct details. IIRC, that involves the pre-heat fuel tubes going to & from the bells.

3. ignore the old school guys who scream and yell about resin copies of out of production plastic kits. if someone wanted to re-pop the kit, they would have by now.The ones that scream the most don't have credible arguments, they just say its wrong.

4. the beak is not exactly right. reshape the end of the command module so its accurate.

5. After that, as you said, check your references, there are a bunch of details you can fix.

Go have a look at eagletransporter.com and check their forums. Sure you will find a lot to help you there

Oooooo, lucky guy! I've not built this, but I'm anxious to see you build it. Wink

I've got an original Hawk plastic kit. It belonged to my older brother. It's partially disassembled (by me) so I can restore it someday.

Keep us posted!!

Space 1999 Hawk 1/72 resin kit by Hoto, any advice?

Box arrived today… ooooh Stick out tongue

Its a resin knock-off kit from Monsters in Motion, same scale as the plastic kit but what the heck, it was ½ the going price of the old AMT/MPC Eagle kits (dont even ask about AMT Hawk kits Angry ) on Evilbay:

…and you know NONE of those kits will ever get built, they’ll just end up gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. A least I wont have to hear any "builders guilt" from the Collector screamers: “What? You OPENED THE BOX??? You BUILT IT!!! AAAAAK! OMG The HORROR!!!..” Pirate

If anyone has built one of these I'd love to hear any advice, experiences, etc. I already know its a rough kit, and it will need some TLC but I like a challenge, and the old AMT wasn't that great a kit to begin with either as I remember , I can always bash extra "stuff" onto this (with no guilt). Whistling
