I recieved a commision to do two very small, almost stupid small for a styrene kits, Space Battleship Yamato and the Andromeda. I have no idea what the original Japanese was for the Andromeda. I was commissioned by a friend of mine who is a big fan of the old cartoon, the movies, and the live action Space Battleship Yamato movie that can't be translated to english due to some stupid contract clause with one of the lead actors. Anyway.... These little guys could use more detail however I had to draw the line at done.
I am a fan of this series. This will be the third or forth ship I've built of the Yamato. I really wanted this to be special without going too far overboard. I'll post shots later of the carnage in the wake of these two models.
These photos don't really capture how cool the colors on these two ships turned out. Sorry about that. The Yamato had two large grooves on either side of the hull that required filling. Thus I ended up sanding off most of the detail on either side of the ship. There were a few other parts that I filled and they came out great. The ugly gaps around the bridge are just that. I don't have the right material to fill those properly so I instead of ruining the rest of the tower I chose to leave it. The base coat on this model is silver with overcoats of clear blue and red. Even with the dull coat the colors have an almost candy look to them without looking like hotrod candy colors.
The Andromeda recieved pretty much the same treatment. However, this ship is much larger and has a lot more detail than the Yamato. The seam lines are not as noticable on this though they are still there. I'm still working on my technique and balance between filling and sanding off detail. I'll get better though.
Let me know what you think.
