I scored a 1/500 SBY off Ebay for roughly 50% less than other kits listed! Had to jump on it.

I may have to remember these if there's another weekend GB.  I have a bunch of the small-scale kit series in the stash, and they're great for those times when you need a feeling of getting something done when a lot of work doesn't seem like it's having much effect with a bigger project.

Oh sorry.  Correction. It is a 1/1000 2199 Yamato.  I went back and looked at the 1/500 and saw my error in judgement.  Oh well.  I didn't have the money for it anyway.  Wish me luck. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing that 1/500 Yamato.

They are between two to three inches long and 1/2 to 1 inch high.  I don't have them in front of me so my measurements are really guestaments.   I really wanted the 1/350 scale Yamato but now we are talking about a $500 fully animatronic kit that doesn't fly.  Imagine putting this bad boy next to a 1/350 USS Enterprise from Polar Lights!  Now talk about two favorites from my childhood in "Perfect" scale.

I ultimately picked up the 1/500 2199 Yamato model and will try to fully light it.  After working on these little guys I'm looking forward to something that doesn't require a magnifying lense to work on.  :)

They look damn nice. How big are they? I'd kill to get the 1/350 SBY,but I refuse to spend that kind of money on a kit.

Space Battleship Yamato

I recieved a commision to do two very small, almost stupid small for a styrene kits, Space Battleship Yamato and the Andromeda.  I have no idea what the original Japanese was for the Andromeda.  I was commissioned by a friend of mine who is a big fan of the old cartoon, the movies, and the live action Space Battleship Yamato movie that can't be translated to english due to some stupid contract clause with one of the lead actors.  Anyway.... These little guys could use more detail however I had to draw the line at done.

I am a fan of this series.  This will be the third or forth ship I've built of the Yamato.  I really wanted this to be special without going too far overboard.  I'll post shots later of the carnage in the wake of these two models.

These photos don't really capture how cool the colors on these two ships turned out.  Sorry about that.  The Yamato had two large grooves on either side of the hull that required filling.  Thus I ended up sanding off most of the detail on either side of the ship.  There were a few other parts that I filled and they came out great.  The ugly gaps around the bridge are just that.  I don't have the right material to fill those properly so I instead of ruining the rest of the tower I chose to leave it.  The base coat on this model is silver with overcoats of clear blue and red.  Even with the dull coat the colors have an almost candy look to them without looking like hotrod candy colors.

The Andromeda recieved pretty much the same treatment.  However, this ship is much larger and has a lot more detail than the Yamato.  The seam lines are not as noticable on this though they are still there.  I'm still working on my technique and balance between filling and sanding off detail.  I'll get better though.

Let me know what you think.
