Real G

I have a feeling that awful song will become an integral part of this thread!  Stick out tongue

“It’s worse that that,

it’s stuck Jim,

stuck Jim,

stuck Jim.

It’s worse than that,

it’s stuck Jim

stuck in our heads!!!”

Trekking cross the universe under capt. Kirk.

Always moving forward cause we haven't found reverse.

Sorry, it is now permanently stuck! Could be worse I guess.....

Well, I can do the world's worst Scottish accent for TOS StarFleet. Or wear a hairclip on my face or do a terrible Irish accent for the TNG and DS9...

Gamera,

No shuttle bay for me - that’s another non-existent item on the movie prop that has been debated on another forum ad nauseam.  I don’t think so.  Homie don’t play that!

I think the K’tinga will be built as-is; the only mods will be to facilitate construction.  I want this kit built ASAP, before the crummy Federation arrive to spoil all the fun!

The female Romulan commander looked, sounded, and acted too much like my 7th grade math teacher for my liking.  Klingon women have teeth that would make orthodontists giddy, provided the Klingons name them as participating providers in their dental plan!

If a new Star Trek GB got started, a prerequisite should be for the participants to do the spoon or paper plate thing, to represent their build’s race!  Romulans and Vulcans will need cardboard eyebrows in addition to the ears.

but not as we know it,

but not as we know it,

not as we know it,

Somehow I'm not surprised the navigational lights were anything more than just that.

Not sure you need to open up the shuttle bay and scratchbuild a couple Klingon shuttles to stick in there...

SP: No problem with that, Romulan women are actually attractive. Sorry with Klingons I'd have to drink enough to die of liver poisoning before any of their women look good...

Hmmmmmmmmm, if I ever go back and build another Galor class cruiser I might consider gluing a cheap plastic spoon to my forehead...

SP: Remember to never serve Romulan ale at a diplomatic dinner. However I'd assume if the guests are Romulans this might be relaxed.

I had another look at the opening scene in ST:TMP where the Klingons get wiped out by the V’ger cloud, and what do you know, the anti-collision beacons are just blinkie lights!

Perhaps I should just build the kit as-is, and not over-complicate things like I always do.  That way the kit gets built, and we all can have fun and move forward.  Like Star Trekkin’.

Still thinking of the paper plate Klingon head bumps though.   Stick out tongue

Real G: Thanks, I guess I deserved that... Dunce Now I know what it's like to go though the Klingon Mind Sifter interrogation device...

An LED candle for the torpedo launcher sounds pretty cool. If you do the video I think I'd just drop in a few comments here and there about Federation and Romulan models being weak and puny. Maybe pull out a giant combat knife and yell 'THIS IS MY PEN-KNIFE!!!'

How about me and my video-adept friend (he is a huge Trek fan) wear paper plates with forehead ridges rubber banded to our heads, and make cardboard armor spray painted black with aluminum foil trim?  We can then comment on the model during construction, praising its superior detail and robust structure, more than a match for puny Federation model kits!  OK I gave that one WAY too much thought.

Maybe I’ll just stick to building the model.  I did a Google search last night on strobe effects, so now I understand what hardware is involved. I also now know how a transistor functions.  It’s just a trip switch.  Well duh, that’s how a logic machine works.  Sorry, I paid little attention to EE classes in college!  The torpedo effect will require actual study of programming.  OR, I could just settle for a simple glowing ember effect taken from a cheap LED candle.  Decisions, decisions...

Tune in later for the next installment of “Building With Klingons”.  No happy trees.  No bubbly Federation.

...and some Chinese spicy beef noodles will stand in nicely for Gah.  (Before the TV shows turned it into earthworms.)

Maybe boiled octopus legs?  On ST:TNG, I think, there was a scene where Klingons visiting the Enterprise were treated to a banquet where there was a plate with octopus legs.  One Klingon grabbed a piece and was just about to stuff it into his mouth when the camera cut to another scene.  I should have volunteered to be that Klingon - I'd have eagerly torn into the leg on camera AND eaten it, like a Klingon would!

Hee-hee, a friend of mine can do video editing.  Gamera, you troublemaker, now I'm getting ideas!  Youtube infamy, here I come!

And to make sure the punishment gets handed out fairly:

I'd love to see you get loaded on bloodwine and do a YouTube video series on assembling her...

If you don't have bloodwine I hear prune juice* will do.

hogfanfs

Hey Real G,

I'm sure you have heard of TenaControls? They can probably point you in the right direction on lighting for this k'tinga.

Egads Hogfanfs, Tena Controls already did what I was planning!  OMG $95 for their system, which includes the torpedo effect AND sound!  Gaaah!

Rambo, there is a lot of room inside the kit.  Enough for a Tena Controls system.

Oh man I so want to start the kit that the Tena Controls system seems to be the fastest way to get there.

Armornut, yes I will definitely post WIPs!  But I need to figure out the lighting mods before glue hits plastic.

If you have Klingons on your starboard bow, you will risk incurring that annoying yet funny "Star Trekkin" song!

Not as we know it,

Ok Real G, ya gotta do a WIP build on this one. Please.

I was thinking of putting on off the starboard bow of my NX1701 however a previous post mentioned the K'tinga came later the the ST universe.

Still ubercool and SOMEDAY my stash may be invaded by the Klingon Empire.

Rambo
This is going to be awesome! Did you say somewhere else that you are going to upgrade the light kit in places? I hope you start building this soon.

Rambo, yes I wanted to change out the anti-collision lights with proper strobes and the forward torpedo launcher to have a build-up then fire operation.

I studied the lighting kit and its instructions last night, and am not sure I can do the mods without significant changes to the kit’s control board.  I might, and I stress might, start from scratch and design my own board.  The torpedo effect will need some kind of activation, whether it is a concealed switch or something fancy like a wireless remote.  This is all unkown territory for me, so things may not go as planned.

Ha ha, maybe I just get one of those small flickering LED candles and use that for a smoldering pre-launch look.

Gamera - That biker dude would make a great looking Klingon! Wait, does that biker already have forehead bumps?

Yeah, looks that way. I think he's in some sort of cosplay Klingon costume.
