Thanks! Sorry, after forty or so pages I kinda forgot what your original idea was... Embarrassed

I need to go back and reread the thread from the beginning...

BTW: You could have Taylor standing on the deck with a rifle fending off the huge shark... uh wait.. that's a different movie right???

Don't give me anymore good ideas...I just might. That would be a funny dio.  Or maybe put an ape head on a shark body. Wouldn't that be fun.

Tim, cat pics are fine because this thread is cat friendly.

Sorry to say the email pipes are still plugged. It was worth a try.

Some progress on the floor structure. It doesn't look like much but it's maybe 3 to 4  hours of work. So far, the assembly fits into the hull amazingly well.

Btw.  Something I struggled with is placement of the escape hatch. If you look at the hatch on the drawing it is pushed deep into the hull towards the nosecone. When I look at photographs of the movie set, the hatch appears much closer to the passenger compartment. If you look at Taylors foot in relation to the hatch, it does not appear to be very far forward of it. It is hard for me to imagine that focal compression would account for that degree of difference. And no matter how I tried to view it on the model, it was not workable as the drawing has it. So... I had to make educated guesses and some compromises.

And here is a photo that seems closer to the drawing. You can see how deep that opening goes. It is hard to reconsile the two images. In my mind either there were two props or the camera lens created some serious focal compression.

And for more useless information... here is how the Monsters and Motion kit dealt with it.

After considering all the variations--I had decided to make it my own and go somewhere down the middle.

For even more useless information, the land of Icarus served up a pretty scene. It's only about 5 inches of snow but most of it fell within a few short hours. In fact--I was in my dungeon working on the Icarus during the heaviest fall. I was shocked at the site of it all when I had come up.

The sun playing on the scene this morning looked cool. Of course--the image does not do justice.

That's interesting. I wonder if they may have used more than one set.

Of course you've probably heard this before but the shuttle used on the original Trek you'll see the actors walking around inside erect- even tall guys like Kelley and Nimoy. But when you see the shuttle from the outside and it's quite a bit shorter than any of the actors. Because the inside set and the outside prop were different sizes.

Either that or the shuttle was like the Doctor's TARDIS and larger on the inside than the outside. Maybe the Icarus had the same type of dimension twisting technology??? Cool

Nice work so far.

And the snow is pretty but the older I get the more I hate the stuff. When I retire and don't have anywhere to go but sit inside where it's warm I might love it again.

Nothing but rain here, lots of rain. Had to stop modeling and patch up the ark just in case...

Hey Gam—
That was my thought as well. It is not uncommon that stage sets be built to accommodate the actors and film gear. I thought I read somewhere they did that with the Icarus, but I don’t recall for sure.

Thanks for the encouraging comment. I sure wish progress was faster. Long hours at work then other commitments really get in the way of my progress. If I can squeak out a few hours a week, mostly on the weekend, that’s about it. What a bummer because I really enjoy the hobby.

I agree 100% about the snow. At retirement I’d like to move from the snow belt. Problem is, I don’t know where. I hate humidity too, so that rules out a lot of areas. Then there are other things to consider. I guess I could live with snow if the season was short. Where I live now—winter is too dang long.

Funny about the ark. Make room for me too… please.

Thanks for posting. If it not for you… I’d be talking to myself.

No worries- I talk to myself all the time.

Some people think I'm crazy.

I know I am...

I swear it's the little crazy things that let the pressure off like a pressure cooker letting off steam. If I tried to hold it all in I'd end up going bat-guano insane and explode...

I should have been clearer. For sure I am bit crazy but what I meant by that is if it weren’t for you posting to my thread—few do. Without you bouncing comments back, my updates would be like talking to myself, an echo chamber. Follow? Who likes listening to themselves? I sure don’t.  Lol…

On that note... I just want to say that you are a strong light to this forum. You consistently post words of encouragement to builders in every genre, and no one on this forum encourages people more than you do. I commend you for that because it creates good will.  Yes

I think I’ll have to make an Icarus good-will award for you.

Well, you've got other people, Little Timmy, the Captain, Est. 1961, and Greg for example. I just seem to have more free time on my hands- I'd probably get something built if I stayed off the PC more....

And thanks for saying so, I try to stay positive.

1). It took me awhile to post anything here on the forum. I felt I wasn't up to snuff compared to some of the modelers here. So I try to put people at ease.

2). I just like to look at cool stuff people build. A lot of people knocked Model Maniac over in the armour forum for paying people to build stuff for him and posting it. I don't really care, I just like to look at cool models- I don't care if he built them himself or not.

And I really like different stuff, I love Star Trek and Wars subjects but it's even more fun to look at oddball stuff like your Icarus, Greysnake's Gundams, Mach71's SF props etc.

Seth MacFarlane is doing the same thing on The Orville!

Sort of like tv/movie shots of a small bizjet like an old Lear 25 or something, then they cut to an interior shot and the cabin is 20 feet wide. Surprise

This Thread is the most fun ever.

I know I've re-read it at least twice. Entertainment in spades!

I think I started really geting into it around page 7 with Bill M and Capnmac and Lil'Timmy bringing out some Major Laughs.  This contstant humor combined with your tough-love and the Ape-like comments and photos has made for the most enjoyable (and largest-ever), Thread.

I realized last Christmas that you guys bypassed my ability to add anything useful or entertaining to the discussion.  Just so you know "I have been and always will be..." your biggest fan.

Keep at It!

Now that Mascot is feeling emotional and stuff... I think we need to help him out. It is not acceptable that I call him Mascot anymore. Afterall-- apes have feelings too and wow--look at how long he has been clapping. Stick out tongue He deserves a name don't you think.

So... today starts the official, Icarus Liberty 1--Name My Ape Contest. I propose you all come up with a name for our ape friend. I will let the contest run through Sunday, 2/17. On Sunday we'll review the names and maybe take a final vote.

The winner will receive an official-- highly coveted-- Icarus... Liberty 1... Name My Ape award! Man! Who wouldn't want that! Stick out tongue

Our Ape friend thanks you.

I might add--he looks happier already.

UPDATE: You may submit more than one name.

My wife , Liz, says your mascot should be named George.

I'm trying to come up with a name a bit more "whimsical"  .  Like.  "Watchyabuildin".

OR:  missinlink
