Ok, I am not giving up! However, I am taking a break while I figure this out.

I did a test clamping of the upper hull to the lower and the superstructure popped apart. I knew that it was not a steep enough angle was just hoping to be able to glue it into its final shape. Needless to say it did not work. So, I have pretty much pulled the upper hull apart and now trying to fix it. The back of the hull comes in two separate plates that shoul be easy enough to get the correct angle. The front is an entirely different story. It is one piece with reinforcing resin strips on the interior and I am at a loss on how to correct it. I have already tried heating the resin in hot water and then bending it, but; the rein is proving resilient and not wanting to cooperate with that method. So, I have a left over piece of 4x4 lumber used for a fence post. I am thinking of cutting the correct angle (or as close as I can get) and setting that inside the model and let pressure, gravity and some heat get it back into shape. This will be a slow method, but; i can use the time to try and fix other problems that were created in taking the model apart.

Started working on the lights. I have the engine bells done and I have attached the leds to the fiberoptics on the lower hull. Tomorrow will start attaching them to the upper hull.

Oh that looks good! Even if it takes awhile the wait is worth it! 

Time keeps moving on and I am slowly making progress on this kit. Hopefully I will start picking up the pace on this.

Thanks guys, this weekend I hope to get the base together. With that done I can start on the wiring and getting leds in place and then start putting everything together. Oh, do I even dare to dream.

Making some headway. Sprayed my version of imperial grey, might be a little dark but it looks ok to my eyes.

Since I had the day off, I primer the destroyers with a dark grey primer. Should be able to start painting this weekend. Here is where they sit now.

Hi Stephen;

         I ran across a problem when I lighted a TITANIC model for a client. This was before LEDs and Fibre-Optics was the only solution. I didn't have the Spaghetti you have, but close. Now what I had to do was paint the strands with silver, then Black paint to get the brightness at each lit end. Four light sources.And Viola'. All lit up. If your "Star Destroyer " looks good lit up, Yer gonna throw a party, believe me!

Thanks Frank, I guess tenacity would be the word of choice. Right now I am hoping that it at least looks like a Star Destroyer when I am finished. I plan to have one white led per bundle plus seven blue leds for the engines. I can use shrink wrap around the f.o. and leds to help control the extra light. I would assume that with all those bundles needing an led it would get awfully bright in there if they were not covered.

I admire your tenacity! It appears that you gone way above and beyond. Now that you have the fiber optics installed, how do you light each group?

Ok, looking back where I left off here I guess I have more completed than I had thought. Like I said earlier the fiber optic are in place and I need to work on the leds and the wiring harness. What I have accomplished along with the f.o. Is getting the super structure done and attached. So the two halves are together the best I could do. There are obvious seam lines where the large flat pieces just would not go together well. Used plastic stock to cover the worst parts and that's what those white parts are.. Well, here are some pics.

So next up is to wash it and Prime it with Vallejo black.

Wow, 11 months have gone by. I guess I should get back to work on this. I have all the fiber optic strands in place and I am starting to work on the led and wiring. Well, I also want to start painting this beast too. 

Do have a question though, any idea as to what kind of rod to use as a mount? I have not been satisfied with my previous choices so was wondering what other people use.

Had some difficulty with it this weekend. I had the upper hull together, but when I tried gluing the superstructure to it the pressure that I used to hold the pieces together while it dried ended up breaking the glue lines on the hull. So I decided to take it apart, clean off the epoxy and try a different approach. Now, I am going to assemble the superstructure, including the bridge and then glue the hull panels to it. We'll see how that works. Tell you what, this is no Bandai kit, lol.

Ok, so I have had this staring at me for to long now, so it is time to get back to work on it. I have since worked on the seams putting and filling. Still some work to go, not going to bother you with pics of that. I have, however done some work on the giddie-up-and-go and of the ship. So here are the engines:

Well not much work done. I've been drilling holes and filling them with fiber. I think I may have gone overboard. I figure if it is to much then I can just paint over some. Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. So this is the super structure lighting:

And a little work on the sensor domes.

Next will be putting the upper hull plates together and attaching the super structure.

Oh wow, even more epic than I thought! She'll look beautiful all lighted up! 

I have about 100 strands going through there. These were all drilled with a .5mm bit in a pin vise. I have since bought a miniature electric drill which should really speed things up.
