USS Texas BB-35
Posted by Doofus on Thursday, November 10, 2011 3:10 PM

Does anyone know where I could find a kit of the battleship USS Texas BB-35. It was sister ship to the USS New York BB-34. They were the only two ships in the class. I have been looking for years and have found nothing.

Thanks,

Mike

Just a quick search and I got a 1/350 scale from Ironshipwrights, and a link to a company called Samek that makes a 1/700 version.  I included the links below.  Good luck!

Not available in plastic

Available in resin & brass from Iron Shipwright (1:350 scale).

Also available in 1:700 scale resin & brass from HP Models and SAMEK (now out of production but may be found in swap meets).

Loose Cannon has also indicated that they are working on a new-tool resain & brass Texas,  but will probably be a while before its available.

Stay away from the Viking Models resin & brass kits of the Texas.    They are poorly made adn full of warps.

I have the Samek offering that cost me a pretty penny but, it is very well done.  As I have not tinkered with resin, especially in 1/700 it will be some time before it makes its way on the hobby desk.  I have no intentions of having the Texas be my experiment in 1/700 resin.

Good luck on the hunt

I have the Ironshipwrights 1/350 version that EdGrune posted.  It is a beautiful model that really is not too difficult to build.  It is readily available; and, ISW provides excellent service!

Totally agree Bill.  Only issue I have is with the casting over pour on the lower hull with some kits.  I have one that will need a lot of fill if I go full hull, but no problem if waterline.  Other than that they are good kits and fantastic customer service!

I agree with the over pour issue.  Mine required some work cleaning up the lower hull but, other than that, the Texas is a fantastic kit.  I am looking forward to tackling the Arkansas!

Hooray, I've been waiting three years for someone to make an injected plastic version of the Texas in 350 scale. I toured the Texas 3 years ago and knew I had to build a model of her. I have enough references to scratch build one but it would take a lot of time and money to do it right(RC'd of course). Time to review my references and put a shortcut to the file on my desk top for quick access.

All this info about a plastic Texas is great , but WHEN will it be available. That is the $64,000 question. I hate it when they tease us by putting a kit out there for pre-order, and then it's forever before we ever see it... ok, I'm done

Ever since the release information for the battleships new York and Texas has firmed up,   the New York was scheduled to be released first,  late fourth-quarter of 2014 (ie December,  in time for Christmas).     The Texas was scheduled to be released in the first-quarter of 2015.

Trumpeter as a standard action, does not announce their release dates until about 90 days before the fact.

It is still November.   They're not late ... yet.   .

However,  the west-coast container ports are under a job-action.   It is not a strike -- it is work to the rule.   Unloading is going more slowly than many may want to see.    Retailers are worried that Christmas items being shipped from the Orient  may not make it to the shelves in time.   There are a number of ships at anchor off of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach waiting for a berth.

Of course,  hope they are not in one of the missing containers

Speaking of Seasick: I built the Samek kit years ago.

Its in the 1945 pacific camouflage. It was a nice build.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Trumpeter's English-language website now lists the 1/350 Texas with a "release time" of April 30. Just what that date means is hard to tell, but surely this implies that the kit isn't too far off.  Here's the link: http://new2.trumpeter-china.com/index.php?g=home&m=article&a=show&id=46&l=en .

Note also the 1/700 Queen Elizabeth in WWII configuration. And the previous list of new releases includes a 1/700 Tennessee, also in WWII fit.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.
