Posted by bambam on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 9:51 AM

Hello from Brazil,

I'm build the Revell Snowberry and have a doubt, do I have to sand the deck prior glue the wood deck? Can I glue it before or after prime and painting?

All the Best/ Dalmiglio

BamBam;

   I would , to be on the safe side Not have any paint on the deck surfaces when you glue the wooden one down  . If you have any kind of problem , the deck , if it was to warp,  can pull the paint off , if the surface is painted first .

Dear Tankerbuilder, many thanks your reply. This is my first ship with wood deck and as it is big in scale I'm afraid to go on wrong way. The original deck is crispy and understand may be sanded before glue the wood deck. In my point of view would be much more ease to go with original deck, but as the kit provides a big leaf of real wood, I have to go through with this...

The platinum edition has a layer you peel off and is self adhesive, I would still glue it, or alternatively seal it with something like varnish or clear coat as if there is humidity in the air the wood swells and buckles, that's my experience on mine anyway.

That is a possiblity .

I built mine with full operational R/C/ So the wood deck was custom made by yours truly from Teak veneer .010 in thickness . Still runs and behaves like a Corvette on a U-Boat !

Dear friends, many thanks your help which was much appreciated. The hull is already assembled and I will sand out the marks in the plastic deck and will try to glue it straight away...

I have a question about this myself. Is there a certain type of glue you should use? I was building a doll house for my daughter a few years ago with wood shingles, and the instructions recommended using a glue that was not water based to prevent warpage from the wood absorbing the water in the glue.
