Submarine Warfare GB August 2016.

The Nautilus gun set has the 3"/50, 4"/50, 5"/51, 5"/25, 40mm, and 20mm.  That would give you any main deck gun used during the war.  Also includes a TBT for the cig. deck behind the scopes, and a WCA sonar dome if used on the specific boat.

That could be a neat scene.

Because of you Steve, I purchased 4 1/350 scale submarine kits! LOL And most likely I'll be adding two more. Now to start practicing with the resin!

And US Virginia Class

I would like to add the Russian Typhoon Class and a US Ohio Class both in 1/350.

Anyway, looks like I'm ready for this GB when it starts in August! LOL

For the WWII US Gato's, if you step back from the nukes, take a look at the AFV offerings, pretty good detail, and not much flash, and come with some PE.  Not too bad on pricing on the '41 and '42 at around $15-20, the 43 is around $35.

Thanks, goldhammer! I have looked at the AFV Gato class and U-boat offerings. I will most likely will add a couple to the stash, before I add anymore missle boats.

If I am smart, I will just tell myself to finally build my old Marine Models USS Trigger for this GB and be done with it, but I was never known for commen sense when it comes to modeling.  I am SOOOOO tempted to get the Gallery Models USS Intrepid.

I got the quote brass plate ordered yesterday for her. 

As a side note does anyone know what Wahoo's fit on deck guns was in Jan.'43?  Specifically if the aft deck 20mm was there then of did it come with her refit in May-July.  I suspect she had both conning tower 20's in Jan.

I received the 41' Gato yesterday. Gawd what a big kit for 1/144 scale!

41?  My 1/144 trumpy is a '44 with the front of the tower cut down, and shears opened up.  Year, we going to be doing alot of water in dios......I'm looking at probably 15-16 x 30 to 36 inches...........with the boat being right at 24 inches long.  But Revells 1/72 is 52 inches........

I knew it was a big kit, but it didn't hit me until I saw the box. Right now I'm looking at around 5 water dios this year.

The 1/72 U-boat will be on it's stand.
By the way, I also just received Eduard's "Big Ed" for the 1/72 Type IX the other day. I found a set a little cheeper on eBay from England rather than the Eduard site. I cant wait to sink my teeth into that one .

Edit. I told the wife that that probably all I'm doing this year, besides the Merlin and a Boeing 727. Oh and a 1/48 stringbag.

Got a request into Nautilus on another 20mm.  Depending on how it works out, if they are unable to supply a 20 as a single item, if anyone else is doing a 1/144 and gets the gun set from them and doesn't need the 20mm from it, let me know.

****EDIT****  Heard from Nautilus tonight, he is willing to sell me another 20mm as a stand alone item, and decent price for it and postage.  Nice guy to deal with. So I now have the two 20's she had on that patrol.  YAY!!!

I have too many subs in my stash; will clear out a handful of modern 1:700 subs when this GB takes off. Great timing, I have 3-4 GBs to complete spring/summer, so Aug start is perfect. Cheers

I would really like to be apart of this GB. Heck what's one more....right??? LOL, I noticed you mentioned it would be around mid 2016 so I should have no problem. I'm thinking a sub-chaser. I'll wait until you post the date and rules to determine what I'm going to build. Plus, it will give me another opportunity to learn from you on how to do water effects.

I am thinking about a sub-chaser

This may be my opportunity to work on my water effect and think about doing a dio 

The "landing" isn't as severe as you would think.  The boat comes about 2/3 of the way out of the water and makes a big splash when it comes back down.  The boat actually rebounds to about 300' before it stays up for good.  I've got another picture of a 637 class boat doing a blow that is further out of the water, but I'm not home to get the image off of my computer.  

The blow starts out slow gathering speed all the way up, think a fast elevator ride up.  You don't even leave the floor on the direction reversal.  

The biggest worry we had was watching component temperatures climb due to the seawater pumps air binding from the MASSIVE air bubbles.

I'd like to see the picture you have of that.

Here it is, I stumbled across it at another site.  All the film footage I've ever seen stops at about this point in the blow, probably because it would be too disconcerting to see the boat disappear again.

Finally got my resin gun sets, pe set and Squadron book for this build.
