1/350 Trumpeter USS Lassen

Hello,

I am building the subject kit and there are no instructions regarding the placement of the photoetch railings.  There are for the hanger deck nets, but not the railings.  Does anyone have a copy they could share or maybe just walk me through it.  I've had no luck searching the net. I can guess, but I don't want to screw it up.

Thanks!

Mike

I built that kit, mostly because my name is Lassen.  I'm sorry I can't help you, I omitted the photoetch railings because I couldn't figure it out, either.  Lousy kit, all in all.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

There is insufficient PE railings to do the entire main deck, and what is there is not formed to match the sheer of the deck as may be found on aftermarket sets by such as WEM, TOMS, or GMM.   On most naval ships main deck rails are foldable stanchions with wire rope which may be folded down during combat operations.  Not fixed pipe rails.

What is provided is generic upper-level rails for you to use as you see fit.     For railing runs use logical breakpoints; bulkheads, corners, prior lengths installed, etc.  Measure the deck edge segments using a pair of draftsman dividers.   Transfer the length to the railing and cut.   Apply some pinpoint size drops of white glue to the railing at 1/2 inch intervals (try Aleenes Tacky Glue from the craft store).  Position on the deck edge and allow to dry.   Once dry go back and apply a fine bead of CA on the inside of the bottom to firmly affix,

I paint my rails on the fret before cutting and go back and touch up later after installation.
