Someone built this kit here on Finescale a couple of years ago...it was fun to watch.

I actually have this kit in the stash, and I've been waiting for the inspiration to build it.  It's quite a rare kit, and unusual to see a build....I'll also be following with interest.

I built that kit several years ago.  Now I have a problem.  I built it with the oars out and the sails furled.  I put it on a base wide enough to protect the oars, about sixteen inches.  It will not fit on any shelves or in any cases I have!  It is in a box in the basement.  I'm looking for a home for it.

Don I plan on displaying it in some other fashion then with the oars fully extended out, just not sure exactly how yet.

Taking a much needed break from gold leafing I turned my attention to modifying the rudder, the gudgeons are fashioned from left over sprue that looked to be the right diameter, approx 2.00 mm, 1.19mm brass rod is used for the pintle, although still in the roughing in stage it looks ok.  

The fore deck is also installed at this point.

The rudder is completed minus a few touch ups.

A few more pieces gold leafed, the bulkhead was a real pain!!, some touch up left to do, but overall happy with the result.

Thank you Steve, For this deck since I wanted something darker I based it with desert yellow followed by acrylic raw umber and no need for a black wash, for a lighter deck I would base it with white and use raw seinna and a black or red brown wash.

The base is completed.

A small update, I have the main deck in finally along with a few other pieces and have the big cannon assembled, I'd like to add the tackle and breeching ropes to this later on, but unsure how they would be rigged on a Galley and I haven't been able to find any info.

This seems to be the best picture I could find of the cannon arrangement on the bow of the REALE DE FRANCE galley. I would assume the tackle and breech ropes would be the same as the convential placement for cannons of that same time period.

Thanks for the picture Anthony, I've seen similar pics like that too, I've ordered a book "The Ship" by Bjorn Landstrom that hopefully will give me a better understanding of Galleys. Started the tedious process of prepping, painting and installing an endless amount of ribs.

I have all 70 starboard ribs installed, there are some variances in height concerning about 10 ribs that will require me to make a cut in order for the rib to be brought up to mate with the bottom of the rail, the modification though will be hidden when the deck is installed underneath the ribs. The bench rail is secured and a dry fit test of a seat.

Some nice work you have going Buddy. If you are after Galley Info try the Barcelona Maritime Museum in Barcelona Spain. They have a preserved example there on display similar to Reale de France.....Cheers mark

Steve for the most part the fit is great, but when you're dealing with trying to line up 70 pieces some are bound to be off, in this case the ones about midship above the stand off are the ones in question, being a bit thicker they do not bend as easy.

I’m definitely pulling up a chair for this one. Looks beautiful so far. I had a good laugh when I saw your ur painting table, it looks pretty much like my old one that I just recycle. After 40 years of painting, it was getting pretty rough.

Not much of an update, but sure glad I have the ribs done, both beams for the benches and the lower starboard beam.
