1/485 Revell CV8 Hornet

Gene,

     You made that OLD kit look terrific.  The colors are spot on. And don't sweat the island camouflage. Add it in at your leisure. I've seen your brush work so it will turn out fine.

  And you already know how much I like your work on the 5 inchers.

Are you still thinking about trying your hand on a one seven hundredth scale kit?  Your wife will love it as it'll likely take up less space than most of her "Novelties".

Thank you Jim & Steve. I have been absent lately, but I think I am getting back on building. . Jim, I am barred from any more models upstairs . I snuck up in the foyer a cabinet with about 50 Ferraris in it  & my original wall with my 10' cabinet with 7 sailing ships + my 36" cased wood Constitution 2 big riverboats & abbout 150 1/48 fighters from WW1 to now. & a 1/350 USS Missouri. After them I am barred from anymore,  Mean women, tough too. 110# of tiger I don't argue with.

 Jon & Don , Thanks. Jon ,I make my own bases, but my son in law routs them for me. I built about 20 sailing ships in the last couple years & Airfix's St. Louis was among the prettiest. Love to see your pictures of all yours.

   I am hot on carriers right now.. Don's little 1/700 was absolutely beautiful.That 1/600 Academy Enterprise CV 65 was as good a kit as it gets. Fun to build all the way.

Mate, you don't get rid of us old guys that easy, I just had a lot to do. Boy we have been busy & it took me forever to finish this Hornet. I jus took it's final pictures.

I think Doolittle is actually taking off there. I will have to find the picture of my Brother in Law, an Air Force Col.. having dinner next to Dolittle. Back after that raid happened, we had a girl in our class whose brother was on the raid. I had a lot of family & friends in the war.

How is the plane taking off suspended?  Clear small diameter acrylic rod, or fine wire?

       Steve, I signed in for your catalogue. You really have some neat stuff. I should have used your Hornet & Yorktown Island castings. . I have been building models forever. I even built a  wood Monogram P 51 kit in Air Force Basic training back in the late 1940's. I won first place with it in a contest ther.

I bet a wood Monogram P-51 Mustang would be quite the collectors' item today.

The Revell kit has some wonderful features, including an accurately shaped hull, something other kits lack.  You did a wonderful job with the kit. 

I built the kit twice as a kid.  There is one in the stash today in a Revell Germany "Battle of Midway Carrier" boxing.  I'm torn as to which ship to build her as.  Really like the kit.

Steve, i've got 4 of those carrier kits in the stash including the B-25 carrying Hornet plus the non-B-25 Hornet that i still have that i built about 40yrs ago. the intention is to do all 3 carriers of the Yorktown class of different periods of the war plus kitbash the other 2 kits into the Ranger & Wasp like i'm doing with my Arizona OBB kitbash thread.

Steve, thanks & I guess I will have to look for an Enterprise so I can have all 3. I would rather get the Enterprise Revell kit than build it from the Yorktown. I don't know why. I remember all those battles because I even had the one friend who was on the Yorktown at Midway.

      I had a lot of friends , a few years older, that were in the war including my brother. The only time he showed any emotion about the war was when he told how he left the Tokyo Surrender site to bring 1000 Jap prisoners home after the war. I often wondered if our neighbor who was a Jap prisoner & had his leg cut off 2 weeks before the surrender, was on his Battleship coming home. He had his leg crushed in a Jap coal mine & they cut it off with no anesethetic on a kitchen table. He did live a happy life after tho.He was captured at Battan.

ddp59, I did look at all the lists he had. I have seen hi before. I generally ask nino, Jim, if there is anything I want know. He has a list of ship kits that is really good.
