USS Texas floated out today
Posted by EdGrune on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 10:46 AM

USS Texas floated out of drydock this morning and moved a couple of hundred yards to a pier at the shipyard to continue topside work

There should be a youtube stream available on the BattleshipTexas.org website.   Not much happened for the first few hours.  Once movement began it happened rather quickly.   Fog obsucured much of what happened.

Thanks for the update Ed. She's looking good, walking the decks of this ship is on my bucket list.

BTC has yet to explain why she's painted in Measure 11, though.

Thanks for the update Ed. She's looking good, walking the decks of this ship is on my bucket list.

Even in her sad state of disrepair before this work was commissioned, it was really moving to get to tour her.  I can't wait to do it again, now that she's had a fair amount of work done.  I wished I'd have gotten a chance to do one of the walking tours while she was in drydock, but missed that opportunity.

From the folks I know who took one of those, they managed to over-sell and under-deliver, just one more BTF-up.

Overselling and underdelivering of hallmarks of ALL non-profits ... or so I have observed in my six-plus decades on this rock, much of which involved working with non-profits.

It's my own problem, for being far too close to the old urator and staff, back in the TPW days.

The new VP, the public face of BTF just comes across to me as fake and smarmy, as as like to put the hot dog stand back on the deck by the Galley as anything else.

So, the more-like Meas 11, "Oh it's easier on the eyes" version of Meas 21 just scans "par for the course."  As does the decision to park Texas in a sea-facing, but high tourist traffic location (that may or may not have kicked back the most dosh).  Tropical Storms?  We'll worry about those later..

Cap'n!

I am glad you said it first. It's just like the Hornet! She's got warbirds on board from the famous voyage. Yet she's painted Haze Grey not Sea Blue as she was then.  yeah a later model of her, but c'mon a little kick in the reality bucket Hmmm?
