Sailing Ships

Good to here from you agen docidle.  Yes I will be adding gangways on the sides.  Lowering the main deck was inspiared by my La solea Royal.  As was my paint skeam.  I will be lowering the middle side rails to the gangways as well.

It was great to see you posting again and look forward to seeing the progress on your ship.

I just picked up a Preussen on e-bay, but their were no instructions, can ANYONE help me with this ?

I have the 1/150 instructions for the Cap Horn if that would help.  From what I remember they are the same ship but sold under different names.  If these will work, I can send them to you as a .pdf if you send me a PM with your email address.

1943 mike has already sent me the plans.  I just have to figure out how to get them printed.

I'm glad Mike sent you the plans because my file became corrupted which is why you were unable to see anything.

In regards to Mike's instructions, you can copy the file to a disk or flash drive and then take it to a copy center and have them run off the set.  Please post your photos on this build, this is a very interesting ship and I know you'll make it look great.

Also, did you finish the La Sirene?  That is another build I would love to see.

I had a facebook page for a while - mostly to see what was happening with my comrades in arms (special ed. teachers at the high school in Los Angeles from which I retired in June of 2010) but about a year ago I felt I just didn't like the whole idea of social media the way it's evolved. I ended my facebook page and I'll never use Twitter - call me anti-social if you wish - I just can't abide those sites.

I AM always interested in seeing images of yours and others' builds in progress. I do hope you'll be posting more pictures on this site.

Making progress on the revel man o' war.  I have cut open the lower gun ports--added a lower gun deck--started work on the cannons for the lower gun deck, and cut down and rieconfigured one side of the stern castle.

She's looking good.  Did you scratch a whole new gun deck or run a strip along both sides?  What are you thinking of doing to the stern castle?

Hi docidle, good to here from you agen.  I picked up a Constitution  on e-bay for cannons for the lower gun deck, and cut down that gun deck for my model.  I'll post a picture.  I thaught you could see whot I was dueing to the stern castle from my picture---I'll post one from the other side that I have not changed yet.

I would really like to know what that piece of furniture (?) is in the background. Looks like some kind of clear bubble (?) sphere (?).

arnie60--That's a fish tank I designed and built "MANY" years ago when I was in college,and never finished.

Reading through the reply's it seems that the most popular scale for a sailing ship model is 1/250 or larger.  I assume because they are easier to work with? Which company or companies make the best models or what should I look for when researching a kit to purchase.  I would like to tackle my first sailing ship in the near future but I wouldn't know a pig in a poke when I seen it.

Marcus--I think you are asking two separate questions.  1st for a first kit I recommend :  the La Flore--sold by Humbrole- Lindberg as the jolly Roger, and the Woppen Von Homburg--sold by Humbrole- Lindberg.  Than the H.M.S. Prince by Humbrole-Airfix.  2nd. the Napoleon by IMAI, then the Le Superb and Le Glorieux by Heller. and 3rd. the : Cutty Sark, U.S.S. Constitution, and English man O' War by Revell, and the H.M.S. Victory, and Le Soleil Royal by Heller.

OOPS--sarry Marcus, the Woppen Von Homberg is sold by Humbrole-lindberg as the Cap'n kidd.
