She is certainly looking yar Niels.  That is some mighty fine painting and surgery you've done on her.  I am looking forward to seeing how you move the masts.

What  a great collection of sailing ships and fine modeling as well, I have about 50 plus plastic sailing ships I got from e bay in the last 15 years for next to nothing than what I would have paid from a hobby shop if I could find any that is, but lack of room now dosen't look promising for building any of them, but I may soon remedy that by adding on to our house as the wife has a hobby too .... oil painting.  Karl

photograph what intrests you today.....because tomorrow it may not exist.

Hi jibber! Welcome to the forum!  I think you'll find there's a swell bunch of fellas here, with lots of fun stories to tell, and valuable info to share!

Your Soleil looks tee-riffic!  I recently acquired one of my own, but I won't have the guts to start it for a while!  I do wish you'd have made a WIP for it...I'm sure I could use some reference material for the build...it's funny, I've seen several WIPs for the SR, but few that have been finished...I get the feeling a lot of people never *get 'er done*....

Beautiful work!

Dave

Thank you very much. David I may be able to answer some questions when you get started, I learned allot from my first one, such as I spent way too much time on most of the cannons, 100+ when only the barrel end shows. I do a lot or armor and I hear some of the guys complain when theres a dozen or so wheels….I hand painted this one with Testors only because I thought it would leave more realistic brush strokes, but honestly any more that I do will be sprayed with acrylic, at least the big sections. I can't talk to much about the sails because I always build them without to show more of the rigging.

I always have a couple builds going and I'll walk away for a bit when I get burned out right about this time with the blocking, but then I'll come back to it a little later.

Anyway I could go on, so please don't hesitate to ask I'd love to help if I can.

She really is a majestic beast…..and according to Jean Luc Picard, "Those were the days #1".

Thanks again and now I'm sorry I didn't start a WIP.

Niels,

It looks like you cut the center section of the decking to move the masts to their proper place, or am I missing something?  Are you going to be using the plastic kit masts or wood?  As I said before, I love the painting you've done on her.  Do you tape off sections to paint or do them freehand?

Karl,

I'm seconding Niels request to know what you have in your stash?!  In regards to sailing ships, I estimate that I have about 30 or so, as well as a number of steel navy ships and a handful of airplanes (mostly the planes my dad flew while in Navy).

Yes-that's correct Steve.  I will use the kit masts, but make corrections as needed.  I posted a picture showing how I did the painting on my build thred--A Revell 1/96 English Man'O War.  I used a paper pattern to mark the spaceing.  Then drew the tryangles in pencil. Then scribed them with a small pen knife.  Then hand painted them.

Santa, Looking forward to your posting pictures again. I think it's highway robbery - or something akin to that - the way Photobucket has turned.

I'm happy, so far, using Flickr but other modelers seem to be having problems using them as their image hosting site. What site have you decided to use?

Never mind! I just looked at your thread Santa and saw you're using Imgur.

warshipguy

Gentlemen,

There have been some recent threads showing some very interesting techniques with plastic sailing ships, particularly with the Revell 1/96 USS Constitution and the Heller 1/100 HMS Victory.  Therefore, I would like to start a thread highlighting other builder's efforts, a general catalog if you will. I think it will be interesting to see . . . now, if I can get my own pictures posted . . .  Hmm

Bill

Yes, indeed ! Start a new thread.  I almost passed over your message because it was of a very old zombie thread!
