Gulfstream Collection Type VIIc U-Boat in 1/350
Posted by Flying Finn on Sunday, December 16, 2012 7:12 PM

This kit has been in my stash for about 15 years (maybe more).  It's a resin kit produced by Commander Series Models, Inc.  I don't even know if they're in business anymore.  I got inspired to build it after watching Das Boot recently and due to its simplicity it was a very quick build.  I did some research on the website U-boat.net to get some ideas for the colors and level of weathering.

Thanks for looking

Nice ! Big Smile

I like the subtle weathering on the hull.

I saw a 1/350 scale Revell Germany Type VII c at the LHS and was wondering how big the a Type VII might be in that scale.

You are definitely tempting me to build at least one sub in that scale.

I haven't assembled a sub kit since the AURORA U-505.

Spruce,

Thanks for the compliment.  These little U-boats are great little models.  The Revell one is supposed to be nice.

LeeTree,  thanks for the nice words.  The model was much smaller than I expected.  The real subs were quite small themselves.

By the way, the 1/350 Type VII's are great little kits as well.  They make the VII-C and Type VII-D.

Wayne,

Beautiful build and amazingly small.  I am in awe how you built something that small.

Steve,

Thanks for the kind words.  It was a fun but I'm not sure if I'll build something this small again anytime soon.

Cheers,

Wayne
