Boy, I don't know!  I erased the build pictures from my hard drive, but that should not have affected the postimage ones.  And I don't even see the missing photo icon on the old posts!

At least the new shots, after completion, are still there.

Your build turned out great.  I've long been fascinated by pre-dreadnoughts, but HMS Lord Nelson always seemed kind of odd looking to me.  Its really nice  to see all the images of your build, as it really helps me better understand the layout of the superstructure and secondary/tertiary armament and why the topsides looked the way it does.

PS. I have a 1/350 Kniaz Suvorov in my stash and have been eyeing getting one of the two variants of the Tsesarevich, but know I won't be able to do them justice or have them end up looking anywhere near as nice as you have done on this build.

Yep, that is what I like about her.  Definitely not a Dreadnought.

Finally completed the rigging!

Here are a few shots.

I happened to find some leftover 1:350 naval figures in my PE bin, and decided to use some on the kit.  When I finished the Nelson, I really got to work on my Victory, so that was why so many posts on that.  Took awhile before I figured out how I wanted to shoot the Nelson finished photos.

That’s it. There was an HMS Nelson launched 30 years earlier. She was still in service when this one was launched.

AFAIK the name HMS Morrison was available.

Send a bottle of the Admirals Claret to the Captains table.

There's also the very real possibility that an HMS Nelson was already in the Fleet (if, possibly, nearing the end of service life).

If a ship is going to the breakers, there's no need to rename her.  Or if being sold to some foreign government and about to be renamed.

Note that the Treaty-era battleship (sister ship to Rodney) was just named "HMS Nelson."

My guess would be to more fully honor their national hero.  Have to remember the era and the times, as the RN was nearing the zenith.

You did an awesome job on the Nelson. Now I really need to get back and start building again.

One of the things I like about this model is that Hobby included the rolled up Anti-Torpedo netting. I wish Trumpeter had included it on the Dreadnought.

I used the PE net, but it sure does not look that great. It is two dimensional.  I think if I were doing it over, I'd get some sort of netting, maybe from a sewing craft store, and rolling or gathering it up myself.

Sorry I haven't been posting many pictures.  I have been taking a bunch, thinking about writing up the build for FSM, and the pics go into the folder- and I just kind of forget about the WIP.  Anyway, I got on all the photo etch except for a couple of pieces in the way of some of the rigging, and the two boarding ladders which will be fragile hanging over the side, and these will be the last work before I finish the model.

It is looking great so far. I have this kit in the stash so I’ll be following along with great interest. I am wondering if your upper deck is warped? Mine has a slight warp but I think that it will straighten out once it is glued down.

Mine was not warped.  And, the fit into the hull was almost perfect, except for some very small trimming- just a few mil- at the stern.  I suspect the warp will be no problem if you put glue on the top of the bulkheads before putting the deck in place, and put some clamps between deck and keel.  The center of the bulkheads comes up flush with the bottom of the deck :-)

 

Thanks Don. Your ship is coming along nicely and I‘m enjoying following along. I agree with Bill, there are some great pre and dreadnoughts coming out and so far they look very nice. A French Pre Dreadnought I would love to see in 1/350 styrene is the Carnot!

February is going to be a bad month for building- my wife is gone for a month and I have double chores now.  But, get a few minutes here and there.  Here are the latest shots of some of the work.

The Danton and the Lord Nelson are excellent kits. In fact, Hobby Boss has released other ships of both classes, including the French Voltaire and the British Agamemnon.  It is a great time to model the pre-Dreadnoughts!  Also, I picked up the German battlecruiser Seydlitz, so even the Dreadnoughts are starting to make a showing.

Concerning space, my wife has graciously allowed me to use my finished basement as a museum for my ships. However, after the work I've put in on my CSS Alabama, making many surgical modifications and corrections to the Revell kit, I told her that I want mantle space over the living room fireplace.

Don, I understand about space. Along with my growing 1/96 ships of sail collection, I am doing a history of flight mostly military except for the really important planes like the Wright flyer etc. All in 1/32. My house is starting to look like a modeling museum, specially when you add in all my RC Boats and Planes, Black Powder mini cannons and cowboy action revolver collections.  Yeah I am a 60 year old relieving his youth :)  

Being a Navy Vet I need some military ships too. Watching all your builds do inspire us mere mortals.     Dale

 

I also have some 1:96 and 1:192 ship models, but these are scratchbuilt Great Lakes Lakers (commonly referred to as lakers).  My wife likes those (she was  born and raised near Lake Superior), and I can keep them upstairs in main living area.  Even so, the four of those on display in family room have used up all the available display room (and three are on a high fi cabinet I am doing away with), so I need to negotiate some additional space, like putting up some nice shelves.

Nice Don, I dont know how you guys get such great results with these 1/350 builds. Heck I have a hard enough time getting somewhat acceptable results on the 1/96 ships.  You guys impress me.... Dale

 

Because I have run out of display space, I am moving to 1:700!  Hopefully, that way any space I do gain by getting rid of some models will last longer.  I had vowed no more 1:350, but just had to have the Lord Nelson :-)  And then there is that 1:72 Flower Corvette still in my stash. I have put off building it because I have no idea of what to do with it after it is complete!

With the Lord Nelson, Mikasa, Danton, Tsesarevich, Borodino (et al) and now the new Trumpeter  1/350 Schleswig-Holstein, that's planned for later this year, it looks like options for building Pre-Dreadnoughts/Semi-Dreadnoughts is slowly getting better .
