I stuck a couple of photo's in another thread that show some of the lighting in the hanger deck.

Incandescent lighting, as mentioned.

Hi Bounder !
Near as I can remember the Midway had a flourescent lighting system .It could be turned down as the day waned .Now , that said the lighting did turn to Red at the openings after dark .
We had a halo of red around every opening that mattered, the rest remained closed during " Darken Ship " especially aft so the pilot coming in was not distracted by stray light on approach . Tanker - Builder
Thank you for your help Straycat!
Straycat, i was thinking along that line As well. It sounds logical? I spent hours online Looking for something concrete to no avail. Thank you so much for your help!
Heh. I just went through my entire copy of David Doyle’s USS Saratoga Squadron at Sea and there’s not a single picture of the hangar bay.
On TripAdvisor, the museum ship LEXINGTON has regular incandescent lights in her hangar deck. My “assumption“ is, unless someone knows better, is they would use those in daylight and switch to red lighting at night to preserve night vision?
Honestly, I’ve never heard of anyone lighting a WWII carrier; this should be cool!

Greetings my fellow modelers! I am new here and this is my first community posting! I am Looking forward to a rewarding exchange of ideas and wealth of knowledge shared by you. Thank you. So...after 25 years of modeling armour and aircraft, I’m taking the plunge into ww2 naval ships. my question: What was the color of internal lighting used to illuminate areas such as the hanger deck and superstructure on u.s. WW2 aircraft carriers?
