I made a discovery at GoodWill today

It was a nice contribution to Goodwill, however it's also a free download. But that is very unusual.

 The fact that you met John is tantamount to ( Don't ever wash that hand again ! ) He and I , met at the Maritime Museum in S.F. during a project of mine . He certainly was a walking font of knowledge ! T.B.  P.S knowing my fascination with the ship mentioned he graciously sent one my way !

Good find. You got the original paper, a collector's item.  For the first time I will recommend "Don't build this kit", Save it. It'll look great in a frame on the wall. A terrific remembrance and conversation piece.  Professor Tilley is greatly missed.

     This paper kit is a very accurate depiction of the Monitor, especially the deck details .  Look for the engine room access hatch and the accurate cover over the Anchor well. Also note he has all the dead-lights (port holes on the deck) correctly placed. I used his paper model as a guide to my rebuilding of the Pyro 1/210 Monitor into a 1/200 scale kit with the turret properly positioned.

  I wish John had figured out where the temporary Towing Bitts on the Bow were located. They were supposedly still in place for the battle with the CSS Virginia.

   Many of us have indulged in paper models.  Sometimes that's the only representation of a ship available. Glad you took a look at GoodWillOnline. One of my favorite sites to surf.

Actually I never looked at Goodwill online I went into the physical store by chance and it was there. One other time I went into a Goodwill store I found a Revell of Germany steam locomotive kit there and got it because my grandfather had worked for the railroad.

Oh and I am one of the few members here who have actually met the Professor in person.
