Oh yes, I've looked at shapeways.  That is probably the first place I'll go if my barrels don't work.

Or you could buy the Trumpeter kit.

Trumpeters' kit is worth a little more than $15 :)  Honestly, I measured down the barrels from the real bismark and found that they come out to about 1mm.  Now it just so happens that I have tons of 1mm metal tubes and that I'm pretty good at scratch building thing.  So, I'm gonna try to scratch build some turret barrels for my bismark, if it doesn't work though I will probably go to shapeway, they have 3D printed barrels for about $13.

I'm sorry, I was responding to Capn about a square bridge Fletcher. You are on the right path with your battleship. Tubes wont do it as the real barrels are not only tapered, but also have a series of rings or jackets shrunk over the barrels.

Remember too that the 3800 mm bore is the inside diameter.

Have you looked at Shapeways? A supplier named Model Monkey is bringing out a lot of interesting stuff.

$15 is pretty cheap for AM, especially for ships.

For some kits, the full suite of AM is way more than the cost of the kit.

And, you have to read reviews of the AM (or kit builds using them) to know what you are getting.  AM does not necessarily mean "more accurate."  Also, AM does not necessarily mean "less effort."

Turned brass or aluminum barrels have advantages, no seams to sand, and they are never oval in section.  However, they almost always have some sort of muzzle turned into them.  Which is nice, but naval rifles 3" and larger all had tompions in the muzzles.

You want sticker shock, price out changing a Tamiya Fletcher to a Bath or Bethlehem built "square bridge."  You're looking at $25 for the bridge alone.  Turrets will be about $18 from Shapeways, or 7euro each from l'Arsenal.  Probably a $30-40 hit for photoetch on top of all that.  Or, you can get plastic card, putty, saws, shanding blocks, etc., out and do it yourself.

Or, you just build OOB and call it even.  Your model, your choice.

Aber made them as well, in the same price range.

Whatever you choose, be sure to read a review or two. In my experience, they vary wildly in accuracy and scale. Many plastic kits such as Trumpeter's come with parts that are pretty usable.

Which barrels did you find for that, were they for the main guns only or all the larger guns. Master does barrels for 3 different types of guns on Bismarck, the set for the main guns is around £10, i can't imagine you will find them for much less.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Hello everyone, I've been searching for metal or 3D printed barrels for my academy 1/350 bismark model.  Now I found some but they are all like $15.  So, my question is does anyone know where I can get some cheaper ones or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and pay the $15.

Thanks for to everyone for their help.
